when you bled the brakes, did you pump all the air out, then hold the lever back to the bar while you tightened the bleed nipple up? Then when you let it go you should have some feel. If you did this then please say what you have tried, or what method you have used to bleed the system. ____________________ Bluespark Automotive - Diesel Tuning for Performance and Economy |

Cheers Edd for your post.
First of all i had a noise and vibration from the front of my bike. This is the second winter i have been thru so i decided t change the front brake pads.
I have, stripped calipers and replaced seals.
I changed the pads and could get very little pressure on the front lever. I took it to Sherwoods, Birmingham who charged me £50 to tell me there was no air in the system and told me it would be best to change the discs, which i have done. This has made no difference to the pressure on the front brake lever and am stuck as what to do next.
Some one told me it could be the caliper mounting bracket, but have just bin told it does not come separate from the caliper at a cost of £400+vat.
Any advice would be fantastic as im getting DESPERATE |

Where abouts are you? I live real close to Sherwoods. I might be able to come and see for myself? I can't understand how you could have no pressure if there is no air in the system ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/

Could be the master cylinder seal knackered, letting fluid past as you pull the lever so you don't get the pressure, when you are bleeding there is less resistance as you open the nipple so it will pump some fluid through but shut the nipple and the resistance is enough to blow the fluid past the master cylinder seals.
But what a load of bollocks that changing a disc helps brake pressure if they are that good I also wouldn't accept that they are happy there is no air in the system. To make sure start again by using a syringe of fluid to fill the calipers through the nipple forcing it up the brake pipes to the reservoir, that is pushing the air up and out in the way it naturally wants to go, angle the reservoir so the banjo is the lowest point to make sure no air get traps round it as you are doing it. When you've got fluid in the reservoir and done both sides just bleed as normal to make sure. That way you're really guaranteeing there is no air and can then go to the master cylinder. ____________________ I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite so sure. |

Hi just thought i'd let you know about the latest developments.I tried one last time to bleed the breaks but could still get no air out of the system. So i took it down to Sheldon motorcycles. They were very helpful and told me that the breaks just needed to bed in.Run them in for about 50 miles then they should be ok.But if i didnt feel they were ok to take it back and he would have it in and get the mechanics to have a look free of charge oh and recomended braided lines witch i will fit when i get some more of the green stuff But i am much happier with the service i got from him rather than the 50 quid sherwoods charged me for just bleeding the breaks I hate it when you get bullshited by people that think they know more than you do.Anyway i wownt be recomending sherwoods to anybody soon. Thanks for listening |

Is there pressure at the lever, or is there just not much stoppping power? From your first post it seemed that there was no pressure at the lever, which would not get better after bedding in the brakes because it would mean the brakes are useless (and therefore you can't bed them in!) If there is pressure at the lever but the brakes aren't as strong as they used to be then it would indicate needing to break in new pads. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/

A half decent trick for getting more pressure at the lever is to hold your brake lever under pressure. Get something like and old inner tube out of a push bike tyre, a belt, or something like. Wrap it around the lever while you have the lever as compressed as possible. Leave the lever strapped to the bar for a while (an hour or so), come back and repeat the process. Leave it again, perhaps overnight. This should return some feel to the lever. Dont overdo this as it can make your brakes bind. ____________________ Bluespark Automotive - Diesel Tuning for Performance and Economy |
