Great few days!

Well it started on Friday morning, my mate Matt came round and we got our stuff together and went over to his bird's house, and met up with his bird's sister who then led us to Bradford, we went to a bike shop and got some fork seals for his GS500E and a new lever too. Then we went across to Queensbury motorcycles, quite a nice ride away from the, 'urbanised' areas of Bradford and into the countryside-esque bits. The reason we went there is to look at a new bike that Matt might be buying, a lovely example of a ZXR750 as a step up from his ZXR400.

Anyway we got back and I went to his, ready to start work on my bike. He had the brilliant idea of going to ASDA for some beer and took me pillion on my bike to see what the problem was, if any. It's hardly noticable if you haven't been riding the bike for long distance on the motorway, or at higher speeds and he said that it's a better ride than his GS. We got back and got my bike stripped down and had a look to see what was causing my recurring problem. He noticed a small hairline crack in the top of the carb near the edge, which I didn't think would matter much but we got it superglued and left for 24 hours for best effect. Then we got the carbs off to see if there was any dirt inside, we found there was none but sprayed carb cleaner inside anyway.

He then had the idea to reset the fueling, and on this bike it should be 1 and 1/4 turns out from bottom, whereas we found it was 3 turns out from bottom which means the mixture wasn't right by a long way. After carefully putting the bike back together, which I've found gets easier everytime () we sorted his ZXR out by putting a new chain and sprockets on it. Then, he got his insurance switched back over and as the sun was scorching we decided to head over to Squires.

We pulled out onto the first little straight near his house and I opened the throttle, like I usually do (Quite viciously) and nearly fell off the back!! It was ace, like having a brand new bike, it sounds tonnes better on the acceleration and goes faster too, and I also think that it has sorted the overreading out as the speedo seems more steady and in time with the bike. I did a quick start from one of the lights and the front end got light (Nowhere near a wheelie but pretty light), and I couldn't wait to get to the longest straight on the route to Squires, though I was cautious because there is usually a copper with a speed gun just over the crest of the hill.

So there it is, my two days of hardship followed by a lovely sunburnt body and a fully functional bike, whoever says the ER-5 is just for commuters can think again, because mine's now mad as a box of frogs and I love it!

I envy you, my bike is in the shop for at least 2 weeks argggh. Get some video's of your er-5 or something I've never seen one in the flesh riding around

Sounds like you had exactly the same problem as my bike, the fuel mixture wasn't quite right and it felt so crappy to ride long distance.

Had it sorted last week and it felt so good pulling away at the lights and just a plesant ride again, feels great doesn't it?
