£3680 is the price tag last time I looked.

Eh?

How does being 17 stop you getting the 250 Confused.
(Not having passed your test, maybe, but with that money you could probably pass your test, get a restricted rs250 and insurance, though of course it wouldn't look so shiney-new, even if the '250' on the side has much more tart value Smile ).

Very nice bike, but for that money you can get a late 600.

A 250 is a good idea, but the 125.. A: Looks like it was crafted by satan himself. B: A restricted 250 = Full power 125
C: I am less likely to lose my licence on the 125 even if it was to be full power, the 250 would be silly with my only current riding experience being on a 4 stroke 100cc (A hulking weak bore to all humanity)

When I have my DAS under my belt, I do not care what anyone says, I am getting a VFR400.

Shocked for nearly £4000 there's almost no point buying it, unless that's a bike you plan on keeping for at least the next 5 years, which you wont .
you'll do your test and then be kicking yourself that you're still paying it off and it's value's depreciated so much, and that you'll have probably sent a brand new bike sliding down the road.

like other's have said, buy a cheap 125, do your test, then buy a 4-600 and pay the insurance.

imo it's dumb to buy that.

id keep the ped and do your test and then have £4k to spend on a bike bike (£3000 bike+£1000 insurance)

would look cooler on a bike bike than a new RS IMO Thumbs Up and the big bike (eg GSXR600, zx6r, R6) would last you for years Thumbs Up

like everyone else, i think if you have that much spare cash, you should get your DAS, get a bigger bike, get insurance.

if you want a bit of experience on a 2t 125 before doing your DAS, get an rs125 that isnt brand new. You are gonna lose a lot on depreciation on a new rs125.

Its quite possible to ride fast bikes slowly. I manage it. On a cbt, you can have an economical bike, or a fast bike. If you do your DAS, you can have a fast bike that is also economical.

I've yet to see an L-plate decked out RS125 or similar that's not got scrapes down it's side. In short, they all crash them. £4K.... you mad? That's not far off the list price of a brand spanking new SV650. It's well above the new price of an ER-5 WITH free insurance Shocked. £3K alone would buy you a very nice second hand sports 600 only a few years old.

The moment you've bought it, it's only worth £2.5 - 2.8K.... the moment you drop it and based on Aprillia's spares prices it will be worth £1.5K... £2K if you are lucky. If you right it off...... (and i'm assuimg here that fully comp insurance isn't an option for you) are there likely to be a huge amount of spares available cheaply on ebay for such a new production bike Question

Do your test. It will be better for you in the long term. Don't be short sighted by trying to look cool now... for starters they aren't cool to anyone else on a real bike - skinny tyres, single front disk, ring-ding-ding sound and L-plates.... YUCK Thumbs Down

I'd have to agree with the majority here, its a LOT of money for a small 2 stroke bike. But I'd tell you to do whatever the hell you want it'll definately make you happy right Mr. Green

Have to agree with G here. Not sure if the same would apply to a peaky 2-stroke 250 but I find I'm slower on a bigger bike, in built up area's anyway, than I was on 125's. On 125's there's a strange need to take it to the redline in every gear regardless of the road your on. Neutral

Mine has L`s and it`s never been down the road. Generalisation`s a wonderful thing, isn`t it? Laughing

Has had from new. And that list price isn`t far off what I paid for mine new in 2001.

Do your test and get a real bike, forget getting a new bike, major waste of money. You'll just get bored and want something bigger, trust me.

And aiming for a vfr400 for when you do your DAS - at 21 - Aim higher lad, I had a 1000cc vtwin @ 18. Thumbs Up

Hes right you know soul... the second you sit on that bike and hit the starter its gonna be worth about £.5k TOPS. Then you're stuck paying finance/loan/hp etc for a bike which isnt even worth what you paid, you cant sell it to recoup your money as the market is FLOODED with RS125's which pushes the prices even lower.

Its called negative equity, and its a BAD way to be.

Ok, different tack on what you said here........

Get whatever bike makes you happy, it's your money at the end of the day.

But why are you going to wait 4 years (presumably on Ls which also means you will need to do at least one more CBT, possibly 2) to do DAS and get a bigger bike? Confused

If you do the A2 now your restriction will end when you are 19 so you will be able to ride anything then - you can either legally derestrict your RS if you get it or you can go for the VFR.
