Lifesavers should be done whenever necessary. Exclamation Laughing
When turning right always look over your right shoulder.

You must have a clear picture of what is going on behind you.

Remember rear observations include using lifesavers to get a view of your blind spots (areas not visible in your mirrors). A common mistake is performing a life-saver without knowing what you are looking for.

You should perform rear observations:

Before you change speed (e.g. going from a 30 mph limit to a National)

Before you change direction (e.g. turning left or right).

Before you stop or pull over except when performing an emergency stop.

Before you change position in the road (e.g. moving into the centre when approach a junction, to improve your visibility).

I cant really explain what ur ment to do when on a rounderbout all i know is this!!

I remember the OSMPSL on my CBT

https://www.motorcycle-training.f2s.com/tips.html

That site has quite a few tips! Thumbs Up

Yeah i know all that. But which side do you look over before going around a roundabout? As you have to curve left before going right around the bloody thing ! Shocked

Stopped at roundabout - Going left.

Right check before pulling onto roundabout (to make sure no-one is coming or cutting past you) , left LS to make sure no-one is stepping out or cutting up the inside.

Straight on:

L+R checks to make sure no one is coming, cutting round you or up the inside, Right check on exit to make sure no-one is trying to squeeze into the lane with you.

Right turn.:

Right check before pulling off to make sure it's clear.
Left check passing each turn off to ensure no-one is pulling out on you.

as you signal left (past last exit prior to the one you want), Mirror check (L+R) followed by left LS check to make sure the space to your left is clear as you pull across to the exit, followed by R LS to make sure no-one is cutting round you...

There's probably a few more in there you need to do... Smile...

Just do loads. Smile

Mini roundabouts are odd as well. Same kind of checks but if the Roundabout is Offset to the left from the "main road" then you need to do a further R LS as you go round in case someone behind you has decided to go "straight on over the hump" and will broadside you as you come back over to the right after going round....

Etc..

Lots, often, whenever you are at risk of getting hit by something. Smile

Oh, and everytime you pull out to overtake (guilty of not doing it often enough myself Smile )

K.

krebsy's got it for day to day riding, but it's a little different if you're wanting to know for a test.

will repeat what my instructor's drummed into me.

-on approach to round about, you do your mirror, signal blindspot, move to lane you need to be in.

-as your able to move onto the roundabout, you do a lifesaver to your LEFT, this is because your first move on the roundabout is always going to be left. so looking to your right to see nothing's coming could prove fruitless if you pull off at the same time as another rider on your left. Thumbs Up

-for whichever turning you come off at (well minus the first one, but you still need a left side life saver), as you've gone around the roundabout, you'll need to take a look over your left at least as you go past the last turning before your one. doing this is to give clear information to people behind you of your intention to do something. then indicate your turning, lifesaver and away you go.

if i remember correctly Razz

So do you have to life saver over your right shoulder as you leave the roundabout?

Yes, you should do a quick look either side, your right is incase someone is cutting round your inside. It should take a split second to do a quick left right look to back up your normal rear mirror observations, you need to be concentrating on whats going on infront too incase someone pulls out or lamps on the brakes so don't spend too long looking around admiring the local councils flower display Wink

I found when doing my DAS that it's easier if you talk to yourself through it until it becomes second nature. (Advice I got from here)

I just go over board with them, right check always every chance I get, left when ever turning left either turn or off round about .

One easy one to miss is pulling out when moving out to over take parked bus, car, van etc and pulling back in.

As for mirrors turn your head to the mirror so he can tell your looking, easy ones to miss is after emergency stop, before setting off from lights and when entering a 30/40 zone etc
