Anyone noticed increased brake pad wear over a standard setup? This might purely be down to the compound of the stock Honda items on this occasion, but I've only done around 4600 miles and am looking at having to replace the feckers. Never even thought about it on my last two Blades with a standard brake setup at this kind of mileage. I'm quiet progressive with my braking too, wouldn't say that I'm overly aggressive with them and I'm not a brake, brake, BRAKE, sort of rider.

I've not changed my pads in 10,000 miles.

I reckon nearly 5000 miles out of a set of pads is pretty good Confused

Less than 5,000 miles for front pads doesn't sound good to me.
(Unless a lot of it was on track!)
I've just replaced rear pads at a bit over 5k (lots of filtering), but the front have got a long way to go.
I would've thought pad compound is more likely to be the culprit, rather than radial calipers.

Get some that aren't made from cheese Wink

Honda OE pads are generally rated to be better than most after market pads so I'll be sticking the same in again. They are probably a softer compound than the last gen Blades then. The mileage is mostly country roads, so they are probably going to have been put through it more than slow A road/dual carriageway use.

What sort of mileage are you looking at then Dark? You would probably be the most comparable to me bike wise.

I've done 3,000 miles and i reckon i'm going to need some new pads pretty soon, my next service is at 4,000 miles so hopefully they'll last until then.

Got about 5500 miles on my Blade and the pads have plenty of life left in them. but the wear is all down to the rider and the roads they ride. I wouldn't worry about it, just change them as needed.

Thumbs Up

Unless you're going for really expensive pads like Performance Friction, I wouldn't worry.

It may well be that radial calipers grip tighter, so use pads quicker (I believe one of the plus points is that you can use smaller rotors because they work better). Whether this should lead to increased wear specifically is another matter.

Cheers all. Thought it was worth an ask, as I said, never got near changing pads on the 954's at this sort of mileage. Perhaps I'm getting more aggressive in my old age. Grrrr. Rolling Eyes Wink
