The limiter is there to limit the revs
It does it so that you don't do any damage. You'll be fine. ____________________ the undemocratically unelected mod of the Scottish section |

When the engine gets up to high revs it puts more stress on the valves, con rods etc, and trust me, over revving an engine destroys valves lol. If some tool plays with the govenor to raise the rev limit, the engine will self destruct. It's not healthy, and the nasty vibes at those rpms won't be liked by your engine, but i've hit the limiter a few times and i'm not worried. It's just not a good thing to make a habbit of.

I would like to trust you Jack but i have to trust plenty of engine building experience and years at uni studying it more.
A standard engine is very unlikely to drop a valve from hitting the factory limiter. If they didn't expect people to rev it that high they wouldn't have bothered with the limiter. |

The limiter is there if you exceed the red line of an engine.
The engine is not designed to go up to the limiter on a regular basis. No matter how well built an engine is, at that speed the valve springs can't return the valves quick enough and they will kiss the pistons.
The limiter on my bike is buried 1000rpm into the red line, yes i have hit it but change gear or ease off as soon as it happens. Some people use it as a substitute as a shift light and wonder why the bike is getting rattly. ____________________ Andy Sez....
