A BikeSafe-London Rider Skills Day at The Ace Cafe near Wembley in London is great value at just £30 for a full day that includes interesting presentations and videos, a short town observed ride in the morning and a long country rideout to Buckinghamshire in the afternoon. There is as much tea, coffee and soft drinks as you can manage, a full lunch, plus trackday vouchers, a pack containing a freebie dvd, earplugs, pens, etc and a certificate of attendance. What's more BikeSafe-London is recognised now by pretty much all the insurance companies who offer anything from 7.5% to 10% discount off insurance for anyone attending a BikeSafe-London day. If you pay £400 or more for insurance the day is paid for with a 7.5% discount (£300 with 10%) plus you get hints and tips to keep you safe on the road! More information on https://www.bikesafe-london.co.uk ____________________ Currently own/regularly ride :

The RoSPA training is also recommended. That is if you can find a local group and instructor that is. Info on the test is here, info on groups is here (click on Advance driving, motorcycle link for pdf list). This will probably be more expensive than the IAM, however there is the argument that you get what you pay for.
The RoSPA gold award is the nearest a civilian can get to police standard. The RoSPA bronze is about the same as a IAM pass.
With the RoSPA test you have to retake it every 3 years to keep it valid. Some insurers do offer a discount for RoSPA or IAM pass. Whether the discount is enough to offset the cost of the training is debatable (counter argument is can you put a price on experience?).
