Hi... A friend of mine has gone away on holiday and wont be returning until early August and has asked me to store his bike until he gets back. I have agreed to do this, but is there anything I should be looking out for when the bike is going to be stood in the same spot for 4-5 weeks without been riden? Bearing in mind that the bike will be stored in a dry, safe shed. Thumbs Up

Regualrly start it (and take it for a quick spin Whistle )

Nitrogen in the wheels instead of air will be better for the tyres

Petrol 'de-gumming' additive to protect the carbs

If you have the keys start it every couple of days for a few minutes, take it out for a ride if you can.

Whats this 'de-gumming' you speak off?

I do have the keys, so I'll probably just start it up every couple of days. Thumbs Up

I shouldn't worry too much, I left my R6 from November to Febuary without any problems, didn't do much to it.

Just left the bike on front & rear paddock stands to stop the tyre getting flat spots, took the battery out and left it on an optimate then put a cover over it.

For a month I wouldn't bother with anything special, other than sticking a charger on the battery if it's got an alarm that might drain it.

Won't need anything apart from battery charging the day before he comes back. The fuel won't go off in that short time. Wink

Try Silkolene FST Pro.
Yamaha also did a very good one but I haven't seen it on the shelves for a while.

One little tip, make sure the brake pads don't bind onto the discs. In other words store it dry and avoid any moisture/condensation where it's stored.

HTH Thumbs Up

How would stake petrol block the carbs, surley petrol stays in liquid form? Embarassed

I don't have a paddock stand so it's been left standing on it's side stand, would this cause flat spots if left in the same spot for periods of time?

Hi, the bike is going to be stored in a secure, insulated dry shed, so I hope this 'binding' of brakes wont happen.

Thanks. Karma Thumbs Up

Not in a month, if the bike was to be left for a couple of years possibly.

As others have said, you won't need to do anything to it, just start it every so often, let it warm up to normal running temperature, that's about it.

My bike was barely used over the 4 or so months of salted roads last winter. Just reguarly started it, kept an eye on the battery voltage, wheeled it around the garage every now and again, cleaned it a bit. seemed fine when it was finally unleashed at the beginning of May.
