I'm finding it hard reading the brake fluid level on the front and rear reservoirs. To me it looks way below the minimum as I can't see the fluid, but if the fluid is a clear colour I just might not be seeing it

It also feels like the rear brake has a bit of play before it starts to bite. I can push the pedal maybe half an inch before feeling anything on the wheel. Is this something I'd adjust with the fluid? The pads look fine..

Why not just get the lid off (after cleaning around it) and have a look in?

Sometimes the breather hole gets blocked and no air is allowed into the reservoir. As the pads wear a bit it pulls a vacuum in the reservoir and you lose feel at the lever.

Take the lid off the reservoir and see if the feel improves. Check the level whilst you're at it.
