Ok, im FINALLY back to some sort of normalility now and can walk fine (still cant ride, thats still a few months off) and dont really need painkillers anymore unless doing putting strain on me Thumbs Up

So i cant get to my lifguarding job as middle of nowhere and rode the SV there so thats out of the window. I need to find a new job.

I taking a year out as need "recovery time" and some self reflection, and to get a bike again and have so fun Laughing

I want an office job, like admin or helping around the office, like an office clerk?!?!(is that what im looking for??)

I have 3 A levels (Chemistry, Physics and Maths) grade pending
Good GCSEs (4A*s, 2A's, 3Bs and C) including maths, science and English. Im presentable and have experenice in my previous job talking to the public and dealing with problems i faced in a proffessional manor. I can touch-type and good with computers but not to the level where i could take the apart of anything.

Looking for 40 hours a week and wage isnt that impoartant as long as more than £8k a year Thumbs Up

My question is, where do i look for a job like this?? i was thinking job centre...yes?? I know i wont get anything with much responsiblity but i dont mind that at all. Also has to be Monday-Friday as hated giving up my weekends, esp Biking Day (AKA Sunday)

Am i being relistic and will i find lots of jobs like what i discribed?? where else is there to look? any tips??

I find the jobcentre total bollocks.

Have a look online - there are loads of 'Admin Clerk' type jobs on the jobsites.

www.fish4jobs.co.uk

www.totaljobs.co.uk

Ok cool, thanks the advice, does what im looking for sound realistic. As in there are lots of office jobs like i said yea??

Also, i want it to be a office because:
Arrow When i quilify as Chemical Engineer i wont spend much time in an office (is the plan)
Arrow I dont think i could handle a hard manual job so office is best choice
Arrow Want a job that doesnt involve cleaning (i love sorting files, just not cleaning)

Anyone outline what a typical Office Clerk does??

Just a quick search typing 'Office Clerk' in totaljobs.co.uk

Quote:
Main Duties:
- Sorting through paperwork and products to be sent out to field agents.
- Receiving all incoming information, allocating validation codes and quality checking the responses.
- General administration assistance to the office.

Would be a great opportunity for an Office Junior or Returner To Work

Most 'Office Clerk' jobs are just answering phones, photocopying and faxing, and sorting files, nothing to demanding.

On totaljobs it's under "Secretarial, PAs, Administration"

They usually have a general search box you can type "Office Clerk" and your postcode into tho.

Go to an employment agency Thumbs Up

Dress smartly and take a copy of your CV. Also brush up on your MS Word/Excel skills as they may ask you to do a test.

In our office we hire from Spring Personnel and Reed so it might be worth giving them ago.

I found the job centre good - got this job through there.

If you're going in, just take down the details, go home and call them up - much quicker that way.

Agencies should advertise lots in local papers - which is also another good place to look - try and religiously buy them on the day they have jobs in.

Also look in the phone book.

Going to the actual job centre may not be such a great idea, their website however is quite useful. https://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/index.html

Try https://www.fish4.co.uk/iad, https://www.monster.co.uk/, https://www.reed.co.uk/ and any local jobcentre's.

Try typing 'junior' into your search. Also go to the job agencies as well if you wish to get a job quicker. Don't get too disheartened by not getting job's either, you will send out loads of CV's, most of which you will never hear anything from, and attend lot's of itnerviews that go nowhere but you'll get something sooner or later. Thumbs Up

I know im picky Embarassed but im not working for 9500 a year, im on that now. My ideal, job would just be roughly 13-18k a year, preferably 9-5 although im not bothered about working evenings during the week, just i like my weekends, sex on sat, bike ride on sun etc.

Surely there is some jobs in Manchester, that are Travel, Car/Bike Sales or Bank type jobs with that criteria Question Neutral

Andy - where you live are loads of companies and I guess you are not far from Gatwick as well. As well as the good advice of looking on totaljobs (I use it to attract candidates) & fish4, think about the geographical area you want to work in, identify the companies in that area and look at their websites. Most decent companies will have a vacancy board on their site.
I also suspect that you could command a salary higher then £8k. You live in an area with almost full employment and consequently for someone with A levels and who is presentable and eloquent I'd imagine you'd get more!

Probably best not to pick things that open at weekends if you don't want to work weekends Smile.

Yea i know the area i want, strangly i want a job in towns 30mins cummute (train or bike) away as this is where i used to go to college and where most of my friend (AKA social life) is. Im happy to commute esp in the knowledge ill have a bike for the second half of it Thumbs Up

Yea, my last job as a lifeguard i had a lot of responsbility and not incharge of personall but customers safty and the whole health club section. I also did critual maintainence including operation large machinary in pump room to drian/clean pool. I feel this is good to have as show im able to cope with responibility and know the lady well that would give my referance Very Happy

Im also a person that can get on with most poeple when i try (even if i dont like them) as at work it important to stay friend with your co-workers just to make your life easier Thumbs Up. Hope these skills will show in interviews.

Yea i agree, the thing is this year out wasnt planned and if i hadnt of crashed id be off to uni in two months Shocked scary when i think about it.

But due to not much overheads, i wont base my job choice on Salary, its not that important to me. I worked out that £8k would sort me off with a nice bike (already have £2.5k saved) and bit of savings uni so all i want, i wouldnt complain at more but at same time wouldnt hunt for a new job purely as it would have more money. I think job enjoyment is more important this year and the location of the job.

Thanks for everyones input, keep it coming Thumbs Up Very Happy

True, i have a valid lie for not going to work Sundays, im an avid Churchgoer................ NOT, but it has helped me not work sundays in the past Laughing

Saturdays im not to fussed about, id rather work till 5, than stay in bed till 3 in the afternoon to be honest, but ideally 8-5 that im doing now would be sooooooo much better. Getting a job's northwest paper, later, so have a good gander through that later Smile surely someone will employ a loveable Manc like me Very Happy
