look them up on bike trader.
how many of these bikes have been dropped ?
Lots.
Whats the problem? are they a bit crap or do they attract the more wobbly rider ? Neutral

Lots of 1st big bikes mate. That's why the general consensus is for everyone to say that people should buy something used to learn on and as a first big bike. Saves a lot of cash in the long run.

I think bikes should be made in such a way that they are ment to be on their side when you park/store them.

Bosh. Problem solved. Laughing

When my bike ends up on its side it stays that way until some nice bloke comes along and rescues it for me!

Sv's are quite tall I thought. Probably why most people drop them.

Well my SV 650 is 3 year old now and is the first bike I ever had that *never* fell over as yet.
They are a bit tall but quite narrow, not a problem if you're more than about 5ft 7in I would think

It's not just people on their first big bike that drop them though, I mean, G keeps throwing his down the tarmac with amazing regularity and he's been riding years! Laughing Wink

Going to install crash bungs ASAP.

Had a 0mph drop on my drive up against a wall, possibly the most embarrasing moment of my life.....

Came back from work in a rush to watch the footy, stopped outside the garage door to open it. Didn't fully kick out the side stand, start getting off,............,everything goes into slow motion, bike starts to fall on me, not enough strength to prop it up, Aggghhhh I'm trapped agains the wall in a horrible squat sit type position and have put a massive scratch on my helmet and onto the gear box cover. Embarassed

Luckily no scratches on the fairing at all, plastic on the wing mirror got a slight graze. Can you get replacement covers for the gear box?

Had my SV since I passed my test last May, not been dropped (yet *touches wood*) but I fitted DHMs a long time ago. I have had a couple of incidents though when I almost dropped it.

I've dropped three of my Blade, over the years, never anything serious. I'll tell you a funny story though.

A bloke from a bike club I used to belong to took a Valkyrie out for a test ride for a giggle. For those that don't know, the Valkyrie is a huge 6 cylinder 1600cc Honda custom thing. He pulled up at the roadside in a deserted street and tried to put the sidestand down. Now the sidestands on these things go down in a wide flat arc, not the straight down of most sidestands, and he overbalanced with his foot still on the sidestand. The bike fell on his leg and trapped it against the kerb, not painfully but no way was it coming out.

Now, I dread to think what these bikes weigh and, from his prone position, there was no way he was lifting it off again. So he had to lie there and wait for someone to come along. First was a little old lady who said sorry that she couldn't help. Next was a group of builders who took the piss for a minute (things like 'you shouldn't ride big bikes if you can;t handle them') and then lifted it off him.

I think I'll stick to sports bikes, they're not as heavy.

Cheers

Grim

Sportsbikes still come in at the 150kg+mark and from my squat position there's no way I could lift it, had to squirm out like a worm.

Even struggled to get it back up once I was out.

I know there are plenty of tricks to spin a bike round on the side stand or ways of wheeling bikes about easier, but is there a trick technique to get bikes back up?
