While out in Thailand in May i drew some money out of a portable atm. I drew out 10,000 baht which is about £140.
All was fine, the reciept was correct the money was right so i thought nothing of it.
Later that night i checked my bank balance in an internet cafe and it said i had withdrawn 20,000 baht. I only drew out 10,000 so thought it was just a simple mistake. As i had the reciept i thought it would be resolved ok in the UK.
Anyway i saw the dude at the bank, he took a copy of the reciept and said it would take 10 weeks for them to sort it out.
I thought it was a bit long but nothing i could do. Anyway today i get a letter saying they contacted the owner of the atm machine and there was nothing wrong, the transaction was correct, despite it saying on my reciept 10,000 and i only got 10,000.
The bank are just saying sorry now there seems to be no problem.
Any ideas?? Seems like a bit shit to me really considering i actually have the reciept.....
It's only £140 so not the end of the world but its the principle. I was charged £75 bank charges over there with Barclays, banks take the piss it really annoys me. |

£140 to draw out £140.
It was the same type i had been using for 2 weeks previous. The charges were never more than £5. |

Write. State that your letter is a complaint. Ask them to account for the extra money, given that you have a receipt (enclose another copy). Tell them if they can't account for it, you would like a refund. Tell them that if a refund is not forthcoming, you would like the address for the financial ombudsman.
If they don't give you the money back, write to the ombudsman.

cynicism hat on
they say WE don't have charges , what in reality this means is that nationwide own a subsidary which owns a 49% stake in another company, while nationwide holds another subsidary which owns a 49% stake in that company too which handles such transactions, and does the dirty work of charging you a fortune for overseas ATM use, is done by such subsidaries , and hence , nationwide rape you for ATM use but do it via subsidaries so they can say not my fault gov,
the clue is in the wording , they say they can't control the operator charges , and guess who owns shares in the operators eh? ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The worlds local bank, eh
I'd do what Siggi suggested. My mum has that sort of attitude, and trust me, if you flip out at anybody in any store, they begin to see your side of the argument. It's a bit pathetic really, but they usually think whatever it is, is not worth the fuss in the store/bank/etc.. ____________________ SavageKymco wrote: lol yea yea, im just gettin food here, keep my strength up you know. all this killing takes a lot out of a guy Ha ha |

It was 1 transaction, its not on my online statement anymore but i have the statement at home. One transaction for 20,000.
Here is the reciept, i will write a letter today but if they refuse to pay i will leave them. I left barclays beacuse they fucked me about with bank charges and refused to give me a debit card so i will have to look for another bank. |
