Well, i cant decide what to do.

I no its my decision and i was all up for going for the Army last week, this week im swaying back towards joining the police. Dont no why really, might be somthing to do with going away, the training or the fact id have to leave biking for such a long time. Laughing

Dont want to really live away from home/friends/current social life and basically loose the mates ive got now. Has happened enough really.

I got till Sunday to either put my aplication in to the Army or Put my application in for the Police and get another tempory job to pay rent etc.

What would you do and why? Thumbs Up

If it was me, out of those two I'd choose the Police.

I'd rather be able to come home at the end of the day / shift to my family than sleep in barracks.

I've just recieved my police application pack, not sure whether to fill it in or not, at 28 am I too old for a career change?

Like Barry says, I cant afford to stay away for the night, days or even months with a family, so the armys out.

I nearly applied about 3 years ago but binned my application when my GF at the time said she wouldn't be a 'coppers wife'.

The Police tend to employ more about that age group, as they want people with a bit of life experience.

Personally I'd go for the police. Better pay, pension, perks etc.

If you have to ask on here, then it maybe you need more time to think about what you want a job.

Is the army really the life for you?

Will the police be likely to accept you at the moment?

Essex police are currently after 120 new recruits, only a couple of hundred application packs were sent out from monday morning and they are all now gone.

Hmm both are equally dangerous ,

Police face gang banger Britain , where Uzis are the must have accessory of the season.

Army face miffed beardy blokes in Afganistan , where Ak47s are the ultimate must have accessory,

both situations you are unarmed , SA80A2 doesn't count as a weapon either,

but remember you will be a public servant , power often corrupts,

If I were you (which I'm not) and i had the choice, I'd go for teh Army.

Why, because there are many facets to the army, its not all about front line groundtroops and being blown up by ragheads. There's the royal engineers, mecahnics, medics etc. You'll met new friends, become incredibly fit, see the world, pay no tax. Obviously the discipline would be a hurdle but thats all part of the conditioning.

The police as I see it is endless paperwork and generally being abused day in day out bt drunken scrotes, long unsociable and I should imagine the stress levels are high as well. Even though Yoiu have a sense of pride and giving back to the community, I think the cops do a good job but i would'nt do it.

I predict that police officers are to be become a thing of the past. The new method of policing is to use PCSO's for the general police duties such as foot patrol etc.

I think the number of police officers will drop and that police officers will only be used for the specialist areas which will mean less opportunities to join.

If you can't choose between the army or police, are you sure that either are for you? I cannot comment on the army as I have no experience of it but what do you expect from the police? Half the job is filling in paperwork and waiting around for decisions.

The police is a good job if that is what you want to do. I wanted to be in the police from about the age of 4 and no other job was even of interest to me.

Just to cover what Whosthedaddy said. I would say 28 is perfect time to change. The police are looking for people with life experience and you could have a better chance than someone 10 years younger than you. Go for it Thumbs Up

I predict lonestars from the shadowrun/neuromancer universe , ie policing for profit , where corporations bid for police enforcement, and do a shit job of it (ie like private prisons were its in their interest NOT to report fights and drugs cus if they did they'd lose so much in fines they'd not make any of the all important god in the UK profits).

Think he means private police forces. A bit like when the rail networks were privatised.
Changed from charging for a 'service' to charging for a 'service (read profit)'.

At least its better than the A1, you can fire it without the firing pin breaking, rounds getting jammed or it falling to bits due to corrosion! (well sometimes anyway) Smile

I had to make the same decision and I chose a career in the military and would not look back. Its rewarding and the opportunities are fantastic. You can literally do anything you want, from football to skydiving, either cheap or free. You'll make great mates and every day is different.

However.. there is a massive bulls**t factor in the forces (i'm sure others on here will agree) that can get really annoying, and I realise it isn't a career for everybody!

Out of the two I'd say be a policeman, just because you get to stay at home at night. Although you'd then be a piggie Neutral

I say be a fireman Thumbs Up The women love it too

sure its for some people and I've known plenty of ex paras in my time they seemed to get the hump after a while and left persuing civie jobs, and are generally glad of it.

Yeah I know many people myself who are fed up with it and taking their redundancy or not signing on. On the other hand I know people who will stay until they get physically thrown out of the gates! I suspect it's a good career for young people and then some people like to stay some don't.

The up side to this is that the Forces are big on ensuring you leave with skills you can use to get a civie job so if you do get 'bored' you can get another job.

Police.

If you don't mind calling a spade a tool for digging with a handle a shaft and a flat bit that gets pushed into the ground.

I didn't mean that as racist, I meant it as they are so politically correct they are not allowed to catch criminals anymore.

As for the forces................Are the forces worth signing up for when the enemy are invited in to our beautiful country and given a house, dole and whatever else?
