Anyone else done something like this.

Leaving work today, backing bike out, someone says bye (i've plugs in), I turn round, slip at same time and bike goes over.

Infront of managing director, the maintenance guys all the smokers and 2 guys on the roof fitting air con.

Comment shouted like buy a car, are you going to the pub or have you just been.

I still feel like a prat. Good job I had helmet on I went red.

Bikes okay R&G and rear foot rest did its job (slight scuff to exhaust but its going anyway). Foot's blooming sore though.

If you don't drop your bike you won't feel like a prat.
In future, when it hits the deck, refer to the incident as "laying it down gently" and then you'll have no need to feel embarrassed.

had something similar on my old vx125 scootay.
had the big fat chain in the back wheel. went to start up bike as i'd forgotten about it. revved it up a bit. and as it's a twist and go, well need not be said the chain flew up and got caught in the disk brake.
oh yes i felt good about that.
took AGES to get it out.

Yeah, dropped the NSR at the Wheel bike meet infront of a few hundred bikes, just stood there like a tool looking at the floor where the NSR lay..

I was far too tired to be riding and had forgotten I was supporting the bike between my legs... and let it fall.

or how about the time I stopped as a drop off rider at a junction and put my foot in diesel, fell off varadero into large puddle.. soaked for rest of day.

or...
hired DR350 in cyprus... lost balance in sand dune, full teddy bear roll dismount...

You feel better yet?

so..... middle of rotterdam, parking on the pavement, i went to put centre stand down on my cbr, my right foot flew off the stand as it was slippy with all the oil. i did the slowest controlled drop in history. fully laden with camping gear, tank bag, tail bag etc

Beat this:

I followed my mates in a honda civic all the way to McDonalds drive through, they go into the lane to get to the ordering window, i pull up beside them tell them what i want and ride off on the outside lane for going right round, rounding the corner i spin up the rear tyre (thanks to the twat who was WASHING THE TARMAC?!) Lost the back end and went down infront of a startled old lady and her husband in the car, quickly upped the bike, and just as i struggled into the parking space she gave out. Not much damage, scraped right footpeg, scraped mudguard and some dented pride.

Never go into a parking space on a heavily cambered road, front first. Embarassed

Trying to back out of it, my RHS foot slipped, I managed to set it down relatively gently and didn't do any damage, as it was leant against another car. Shocked Laughing

I was having trouble getting it back up, luckily I got some help from a friendly shop owner. Smile Thumbs Up

I've never dropped my bike before. But, I did shit my pants when I very nearly decked it when getting my knee down around a corner today.

I was doing about 60mph through a country land and seen a corner so I slowed down to about 50mph which looked about the speed for the corner. I went around it ok, but then......

Do you know when you are going round a tightish bend then suddenly it goes into a really tight corner with no time and distance to brake or slow down for it and you just get that sinking feeling in your stomach as if your heart has just fell out through your arse? Well, I did that.

I had to lean that far that my knee was already down and I still needed to get down further or I wasn't going to make the corner. I tried to lean further into the bend but started to feel to back end wanting to slip out so I checked for oncoming traffic then just pulled it up right then brake hard to make a stop in a lay-by that was luckily just on the opposite side of the road.

I stopped and had a tab at that point. I thought that the phrase on my licence plate was going to be an accurate description: 'Road to hedge seeking missile'. Laughing

Sorry for the kind of thread hijack. Embarassed

When my ZXR750 was a non runner due to a knackered altenator, I had the bright idea of pushing it a mile or so to a local bike garage. It should have been easy enough, out of my estate over a road and down a private road, then jobs a good un Wink

After pushing my bike for 30 secs or so, I realised just how heavy a 200+kg bike can actually be.

As I come to a new road crossing, I realise that the work man had closed the other side to tarmac it and the only way round would be to add another 400 odd yards to the journey as well as pushing it round a very big and busy round about.

Sod that I thought Rolling Eyes

Grabbed the bars, tried a 3 point turn and the weight just got away from me and down she went in slow motion Shocked Embarassed . What made it worse was that the aforementioned work man were just standing there watching.

I was already panting like a dog in the summer die to the effort of pushing the damn bike, then I had to pick it up and push it back, all the time they just stood there scratching there butts.

I managed to drop my Super Tenere about three years ago, whilst waiting for my best mate Tigger to arrive (late) to his own funeral Rolling Eyes

I pulled up in the designated car park, as I had seen a load of blokes of various vintage standing around a load of Vincents (Tigger was a member of the VOC and had owned two of them himself). Dunno what made me do it, I just pulled up and ... dropped the bike. I think I dropped the bike because

(a) I was looking for the coffin (which was not there yet); and
(b) I was so impressed at all the vintage machinery.

That's my excuse anyway Embarassed

Been there, done that.
Was visiting my mother in hospital. Pulled up at the car park behind a car. I was also looking how to go around the barrier and fit the bike into a place were a car wouldn't fit (because they'd put barriers in Rolling Eyes). So there I was feeling good about my low speed balance when I realised I was actually stopped and the bike was falling over. Couldn't get leg out to save it so tried to gently lay it down, hurting several muscles in my shoulder and back. Can't remember picking it up but I just pushed it to where I wanted to park up and tried to hide Embarassed

So I think if you drop a bike at 0mph it's down to loosing concentration and/or something else taking your attention, much like hellkat said Very Happy.

One of my worst nightmares is to pull up at a bike meet, such as Squires, and drop the bike with me on it or else losing it if I need to pushing it parking up.

I dropped my almost new R6 once at a petrol station. I pulled up at the end pump which had a funny camber to it. Did the usual, bike in neutral, side stand down get off and started to grab the pump. What must have happened was that I thought I'd locked the stand out but it had caught on the odd camber and not fully engaged. The bike must have then been slowly slipping backwards off the stand. It fell onto me pinning both my arms at my sides and squashing me to the pump. Desperate not to drop my new bike but having my arms pinned was an interesting predicament. Shocked

I actually managed to sort of shrug the dead weight up enough to get and arm out and lift it back off me. I pulled the muscles in my shoulder in the process and it was a good job I didn't fart as I'd have probably followed through with the strain. Wink There were two blokes fitting a glass into the garage door that saw it and came over to help. Fortunately I'd managed to free myself before they got there and still had my lid on so that they couldn't see how embarrassed I was. Needless to say, I always make sure my bikes are well over on the stand now.

I must admit that I did lay my bike down gently once although I wasn't embarrassed at all. Quite the opposite because I thought I was going to crash into the back of a spankie new Subaru. All my own fault because I was going way too fast on a NSL road.
Came hammering around a bend and there was a wall of stationary traffic and an ambulance trying to weave its way through. There was no riding through and I had to brake harder than I've ever had to before. Was pushing all my weight to the back of the bike because it was so light but didn't think for one moment I would avoid hitting the Subaru, I guessed I needed another few feet stopping distance. At that point I gave it my all and the back end did actually lift, and I did stop with about 2 inches to spare. Both my wheels were on the ground, both my feet were now on the ground but the bike wasn't properly upright. It was leaning over to the left. Had I had the room I would have ridden it upright but there was nowhere for me to go. I made 3 attempts to pull it upright but height and strength were not on my side. I had no choice, I just cocked my left leg and let it go.
I was trying to pick it up off the deck but failing and a lorry driver jumped out of his cab and helped me. He was saying stuff like "F*** me I thought you were a gonna" and "How the f***ing hell did you manage to stop?"
I was so grateful that I did manage to stop without causing any damage to any vehicles or to myself that dropping my bike was not an embarrassment, it was more a wake up call with regards to what could have happened because I was basically going too fast.

The first time I dropped my bike I was backing out of a driveway on to the road and as I was coming off the pavement which was on a slight camber the front wheel just rolled out and it went.

Luckily I was at my mate's house so one of them helped me pick it up.

The second time, I was at a T-Junction waiting to go right. I was a bit tired and had a pillion so when I went to pull away, I relaxed my legs to let the engine pull us away but didn't give it enough revs so technically I was just leaning the bike to the right with a pillion on and no forward motion.

So, I dropped it at the front of the junction with 4/5 cars behind me. The pillion helped me pick the bike up but no one else made an effort to help.

Every time I drop my bike I make a ranting thread on here 'cos I get so angry for doing it!

yep count me in for this one too. Had come back from a 2 hour ride with no issues on my zx6 which Id had barely 2 weeks.
On the way home about 10 minutes out I figured I'd stop for a quick smoke on the dead end side of a busy round about. As I went to do a slow u-turn I snatched the front break and the gravel on the deck didn't assist with any grip when I threw my leg out.
Must say it went down so gently.
Lucky enough a guy spotted it going down as he went round the way and came back to offer a lift.

Thing flooded itself and wouldnt start for about 45 minutes.
When it finally started im sure the battery had only 1 go left in it.
Bastard of a thing coughed and spluttered all the way home like a bitch.

No damage just my pride but gained the experience to never grab the brake lever on a bike thats brakes actually have some bite.
The ones on my older bike were much forgiving ( not a good thing).

Yep, dropped my last Blade on the driveway in the pouring rain. I'd actually parked up but there are some slabs by our drive, the back-end was on them and the bike looked unstable. So I went back to it, pulled it upright, the bar slipped out of my wet glove and I dropped it. I was right, it was unstable Rolling Eyes Mr. Green

Then dropped my current Blade when wheeling it down off my new hydraulic bike ramp. That cost me a mirror and nowt else Mr. Green

Can't beat my sisters ex-boyfriend though, rode up outside a shop I was in, on his trailie, in the rain. Tried to put his foot down but the kick plate was stuck up his waterproof trouser leg. Went down without seeming to move a muscle.

Cheers

Grim

Being someone of a vertically challenged disposition, and having short stumpy legs I regularly almost drop my bike.

I'm getting better at actually looking at the road before I stop to make sure there's no dips/pot holes/slopes. Just the slightest moment of being off-balance can lead to a catastrophe...

I've dropped my bike on my drive thanks to a slippy patch under my right big toe (the only thing I could get in contact with the floor), I dropped my NSR in front of my music teacher's house because I didn't kick the side stand down properly and just jumped off it Embarassed
My CBR kissed concrete when I got the knee of my then baggy leathers caught on the fairing and couldn't get my foot down in time - that was in the middle of a busy road Embarassed

*Nearly dropped my bike by reversing into the wall and getting my exhaust trapped against the corner of the wall so I couldnt get the bike upright enough to take the weight or to put it into gear to go forwards... I have no idea how I saved that - I must be getting stronger! Laughing

almost dropped my DT literally days after buying it. Bought it as a writeoff and had just fitted new bars (which were bent) to see how it ran. I got halfway up a hill and stopped. Then decided to do a U-turn but stalled it cos I didnt give it enough revs (muppet). Because Id started the turn before getting upto speed, the bike leant right over. Dropping it was NOT an option and I kept it up! Very Happy I almost went blue as it leant over so far.

Another time in the middle of winter on my scoot, I was slowing down approaching a roundabout with the intent of going straight over and there was an oncoming car which wasnt indicating. Being my first month of riding I foolishly assumed they were going to go straight over the roundabout too till I saw him about to turn across my path. Slammed on the brakes, locked BOTH wheels on the frosty tarmac Shocked and the bike started to drop. Slammed both feet on the deck and had to pull it back upright twice while moving (wasnt going fast, the scoot was just sliding)

Not exactly dropped but close enough for my liking!

Fell off while moving in slow traffic because throttle was frozen, right in front of my old school, at 9am when everyone is just getting into school, everyone knows who I am and I was trapped until 2 women came over and picked the bike up off me.

That's not something I want to happen again Embarassed
