what is it with my bf family?

his sister ran into the back of me when i was pulling away form a petrol station a while ago. as far as i knew your meant to stop and look for traffic while she has her head turned the other way driving.

other day the bf does the exact samething when i am suppose to give way. there was traffic coming and he drove into back of me when i stopped knocked the bike out of my hands, lucky i have crash bars but needed help picking it up.

was so Embarassed but why twice in the same family? they must not know how to drive. he bent my footrest and i had to drive home witnh my leg to high in the air and to back break. not a happy camper lol

or maybe i am in the wrong? i go by the highway code.

Your not in the wrong, i ran into the back of my mate many years ago and ended up dropping my bike, he didn't notice and rode off. Embarassed

I've never made the same mistake twice though Wink

Get a quote for the damage and for new crash bars(as they are now scratched), then present it to them. Let us know the reaction, they might even give you the money. Wink

Oh and next time follow them...they need help learning the basics. Mr. Green

One question... if your BF and his sister have both driven into the back of you whilst you've been waiting to turn out of a petrol station, was there traffic that they'd have just driven into if they'd not hit your bike first? Confused

Doesn't sound like you're in the wrong as such, but you've also had that other person reversing into you so I'd be starting to be trying to be riding slightly more defensively.

No not in the wrong in the least. They went into you, a total lack of forward observation and to blame you is just plain insain. Shocked

Sorry and I know this sounds realy bad but......If it was me I would grass on him! If he had hit you and gone over your bike and you what then? If someone hit me and wasn't insured they would leave the scene in an ambulance. We ALL have to pay it and road tax so why should people take the piss like that and get away with it....Sorry rant over. Evil or Very Mad

Well, to be quite honest then, your idiot boyfriend is one of the reasons we all get ripped off on insurance every year. And I (and I would suspect may other people on here) would love to see the twat pounded into the ground.

'When' (as he's obviously not a good rider) he crashes and kill / injures someone, I hope he gets locked away.

It may well turn into a flame thread when others realise but I won't start it except to say maybe his sister is doing what she said she would.

Your life, your choice but I wouldn't sleep with someone who tried to run me over. Not unless they were female, cute and paid. Wink

Said my bit...No point dwelling on it. Main thing is there were no injuries to you, when they ran into the back of you and you didn't have any blame in the misshap. Thumbs Up

I think you were either over-hesitant pulling out onto the road, or they were too eager. Chances are that it is the former of the two, as you do not need to stop when exiting a petrol station, unless a stop sign and solid white line are present.

Er...No, If someone goes into the back of you it is their fault. They should anticipate a car/bike stopping at any junction for any reason. If they cant get the basics right they shouldn't be on the roads. Its just plain bad Driving/Riding.

I quite agree. They should be looking where they are going.

When you're rolling out of a petrol station, looking right, towards oncoming traffic. In a group, you'll normally expect the rider infront to carry on rather than stop when there is absolutely no need to. If the road was clear then there was no need to stop. In this case, i'd put it down to joint fault. The lead rider for stopping in a stupid place with no reason to do so, and the following rider for not leaving enough of a gap to check right, and then check forward.

I ride according to my expectations, but my expectations are the worst scenario, ie. that blue polo waiting at the junction will pull out right infront of me.

Im not saying the following rider was blameless, but that it's stupid to stop when there is absolutely no need to. Haul the anchors on at 100mph on the outside lane of a motorway, then when you're rear-ended you can tell me it's entirely the following driver's fault.

100%!! As the following driver would have been to close! The law would see it that way too(plus the marks on the road would put the following car up for speeding too Wink ). A dog or anything could run out into the road and you would brake for it. Its the responsibility of the following driver to leave a SAFE distance inbetween vehicles to stop in time on such an incident.

As they say 'Only a fool breaks the two second rule'
