Favourite type of road

Up and until a couple of years ago my favourite roads were tight and twisty B roads but i've gradually come to like fast and flowing B roads more and more to the point where i seek them out whenever i go for a ride.

Whats your favourite type of road and why?

Mostly country B roads and some twisty country A's too. They represent what biking's all about for me.

I have to say Urban Streets.

It suits my riding style, nipping around around town battling with 'peds, cars and buses.

I'm crap at country riding as I dont get exposed to it very much!

Next bike will a KTM I think, much more aggressive for the streets!

I prefer twisty B roads. They often take you through nicer parts of the countryside, and generally have less traffic.

Twisty B roads, but not so twisty that you have to drop below 60mph.

The type where you have to concentrate non stop for 30 miles and where you're not going in a straight line for more than a few a seconds at a time. I prefer it when the twisties are 'laid out in front of you' as apposed to a flying up a random hill to find a 90 left hander at the top. It also helps if there are sections where you leave the ground altogether

it used to be fast twisty A & B roads in cornwall there are lots of 115mph+ roads like that (people do go faster but mine tops out),

but I think urban streets are much more challenging, with 100s of cars every each way , to crush you like a bug if you are not careful , with other folks to race home via fast filtering,

to knob head drivers who throw stuff at you and swerve to block you,

I don't seem to get the same buzz from country lanes but that might be because I've been away from them for so long......

Also on Urban roads I reckon all sports bikes advantages (and IL4s) advantages vanish , making 0wnage a bit easier on a 14 year old rat bike. sports bikes probably have disadvantages in the city too (clip ons steering dampers , tall gears).

Love Fast and Twisty A roads, I know it's not a catagory but I love A road riding in general, provided it isn't a trunk road as they tend to be too wide and straight for my liking.

new roads are dangerous , the government has been doing up roads (resurfacing) them on the cheap , rather than hire a bloke and a steam roller to push all the little stones into the road , they just lay a thin surface and leave it like that, with all the stones sticking out ,

relying on cars to do the job of steam rollers and push the stones back in , so the first 3-6 months of the road being resurfaced = like riding on ice.

Unfortunately for us , cars are unlike steam rollers and :

A do it very slowly (and often wiping out in the process)

B do not go the entire width of the road so that only where the tyres touch the road are the pressed in bits of stones.

fast a roads for me these days.

i used to like the twisties but now if i dont have my son staying for the weekend then i'm most probably working.

so i need to get from a to b as quickly as possible.


very rarely get to ride for fun anymore


went for a ride out to matlock 2 weeks ago but thats about it .

Can't see the appeal of motorways, appart from getting to places quickly :/
