I was driving through the country lanes in Cardiff and as I approach a crossroads I see a motorbike and pillion go flying past from right to left, heading the same way I am going.

Cool, I think, always loving to see another bike and its even better to drive just behind one Smile So I check for traffic and blast out round the corner to catch up with them. It's NSL so I'm quite happy to give the bike a bit of whelly.

As I'm about 4 seconds behind the bike, we enter a small village called St Fagans, a 30 zone - so I start to slow down. I noticed the bike in front carrying on at the same speed (probably around 50) and shake my head in despair.

Don't get me wrong I love speeding but personally I wouldn't want bikers racing through my quiet little village at 50mph when kids tend to cross the aforementioned road a lot. Anyway, I think nothing more of it and carry on riding. Eventually, I catch up with the bike again, which has stopped at a T-junction. I pull up behind them and start indicating right. The bike in front doesn't indicate (I hate it when car drivers don't indicate properly so bikers aren't much better), I just see it pull out - awkwardly - and stutter violently for a few seconds as it heads down the hill just after the turn. The rider obviously wasn't doing a decent job of controlling the clutch and gears Confused

Of course we all make mistakes so I think nothing more of it and continue carrying on in the same direction as them.

At the bottom of the hill is an automatically fenced railway crossing. The red lights are flashing, but the gates are still up. I begin to slow down and the bike in front of me carrys on!

This, I thought, was unbelieveable. I could understand the speeding, the non-indicating, and the little cock up on the hill, but running red lights at a railway crossing is just retarded.

Anyway, as the bike heads towards the crossing, the fences start coming down. The bike slams on it's brakes, the back wheel locks and the bike starts wobbling all over the place, burning rubber smoking up the entire road. I stare in disbelief, waiting for the rider and passenger to tumble to the floor, but luckily the rider managed to put his foot down and stop the bike on the train tracks. He turned the bike around and rode off the tracks, back towards me before the other gates came down.

A few seconds later they pull up next to me, and I am greeted with well, what I can only call chavs. One looked about 20, the other maybe a little younger. Both had strong welsh accents.

"Are you alright?" (Me)
"Ye - tha fooker almost 'ad me there mun!"
"Yeah I saw"

Basically I chat to them for a while, the pillion more than anything (Who points at my bike and informs me that he used to have one just like that).

Somehow, I don't know how, but I knew that the rider didn't have his license, hell probably never ridden a bike on a public road before. He just made far too many mistakes. The bike was a clapped out old Yamaha ZF, H reg, and from the look of it I'd be surprised if it had seen an MOT in a decade.

Anyway, the train passes and the gates rise. The bike rides off, at a decent speed, and I follow behind. We ride down the NSL road for a while before coming up to more traffic lights (A cross junction).

The bike starts indicating right... Ok I think.. fair enough. But then the bike RUNS THE RED LIGHTS, and continues STRAIGHT ON. I must stress - at this junction we were lower than the oncoming traffic - he could not have been able to see more than 20 feet in front of him due to the road height, yet they still ran a red light, indicated wrongly and then flew off into the distance.

I of course stopped, baffled, at the red light and by then they were well off into the distance.

I wish I'd made a note of the number plate - I suppose I should report it as a possible stolen bike......

And well I suppose it's better that these idiot's are removed from the road before they kill themselves or someone else.

Wow thats nuts. only last week i saw 2 lads on a scooter with L plates so obviously nice and illegal. stopped at red lights on a big crossroad to turn right. then when the Green man came on for the pedestrians to cross, the rider floored the ped and rode through lanes to go straight on.
Dumb move or what Thumbs Down

I'm glad that is off your chest now. It happens all the time and to so many decent people who enjoy riding. I have never been on this forum before apart from the last few days, but, can place money on the fact that a lot have had a similar experience in the past week and their is almost 1 rant threat for every person almost.

The best thing to do is to learn from it, I'm 53 and have seen my fair share of accidents and deaths both either been caused my darn bad luck or some other idiot acting like you mentioned.

Learn, understand and live! Don't even get worked up about it.

Forgot to mention - at the last set of lights I told you about there was a mother holding a baby in her arms waiting to cross (cliche I know, but it's true).

She stepped out one foot onto the road, thank god she checked a final time before walking out because those pillocks would have hit her and I can't even bear to imagine the result.

Shocked I hate level crossings with a passion. Everytime I cross one I do a little involuntary pelvic thrust just to jolly the bike along a little.
I would be a sight to see if a gate started to close on me. I'd start crying, drop the bike and leg it.

I stopped at a zebra crossing yesterday to let some kids across, behind me a red/white R6 pulls up, I knew he'd want to get away first so I waited a couple of seconds to let him pass me...

He blarts past and wheelies it about 3 feet high and for about 10 feet, then when he put's it down he wobbles all over the place and nearly came off.....

Upon realising he looked a Twat he speed off around a Blind Bend.....

I get around said Blind Bend and there's two chav's doing what I assume is a sign to Wheelie...That or it was some kind of Gay Morriss Dancing...As there are cars and pedestrians around I chose not to.....

The fact that I can't wheelie did not influence my decission..... Laughing

Most crossings have a Video Camera now to record such numptys so if it is his own bike he should be getting a knock on the door soon. Thumbs Up

As said above WTF? You shag your bike to make it go faster? You also don't have brakes on your bike to stop if the gate comes down. Shocked

Sorry I confused you so much and thanks for quoting and highlighting my reply. Let me explain. It was a joke. I was bored thought the topic deserved better than 5 measly replies and decided to post an ill judged comedic reply in the hope that a flood of funny karma ratings would come my way. I now know and accept that will never happen. I don't think a pelvic thrust would save me from an oncoming train. I have brakes. I don't even mind level crossings really.
My dinners ready. Sausage and chips. With Egg. Yum.

My mistake. You share the same username as a member of the welsh ride out club. They're who I'm riding with on Sunday.

There were 13 of us out last week but I don't think there'll be as many this week.
I'll be joining the ride at Merthyr but there is a meeting point at junction 32 which would be closer for you.

Pop along to their site, they're a nice bunch of people and you'll be made welcome.
