Hi all
Thanks in advance for any help offered.. Karma

I basically have a keycode radio in my 'new' (not) car

It has power to it, so it is not a fuse or anything
The screen lights up, but is blank..does not say anything
There was a tape stuck in it, but that popped out of it's own accord yesterday
But still no joy with radio Sad Nada

Could it be that someone has programmed a code into it and I simply don't know it ?
Or would it ask for a code ?
(Never had a k code one before)

If there is no hope I will just have to rip it out and buy a new one

Cheers

Make/model of the car?

Most 'factory fit' radios come with a key-code of sorts.

Ahhh, yes I had to replace my sisters for this exact reason.

You can pick up new stereo's off ebay for next to nothing these days. Simple CD/Radio. Chances are the Ford one is probably knackered!

Seems to be places online that will do it for a fiver if you can get to the serial number. (Need to remove the front of the centre console (screws behind the ash tray) to get at it).

Normally a code radio will actually say 'CODE' when you first turn it on, IF a code is required. Sounds to me like it's knackered, power to the screen (and hence it lights up), but no display.

Perhaps the electronics are duff.

I recall you used to be able to throw the early radios in the freezer overnight to reset them though!

1) See if you can get a manual for this radio. Some will only activate the code entry sequence after pushin some buttons in a certain way

2) check the fuses anyhow as your stereo should have TWO live feeds. One is a permanant feed that takes care of the radio memory and suchlike, and one is a switched current which enables the radio to come on with the ignition. Sometimes, with one powerfeed the radio will function and sometimes it may just "light up"

I only say to check this as I had a customer come to me once, and declare their radio dead as it "just stopped and wont come on apart from the lights". It turned out that they had hit a power interrupt in the drivers cabin (it was a big lincoln TownCar limo) and the radio was actually fine. It also saves potentially shelling out for a radio only to have it still be "faulty"

Thumbs Up

Phil
