How do you work out the prices for carpet sizes etc... ?
I've measured out some of my rooms and worked out the room area...... Eg front room 21.2sqm,passage 5sqm,my bedroom 7.77sqm and many more !

If the cheapie carpets come in at say £5 a square meter how would you work it out ?
Is it : ££ times room area ?
Or summit different ?
I'll pop up the carpet places in the week but i need a rough idea how it works ! Thumbs Up Wink

Im glad i paid attention in maths ! Laughing Thumbs Up

5 times however many square meters are needed. So your front room is 22 x £5 = £110

Problems can crop up as you may have to purchase more carpet than needed as you have to get the width of the roll regardless.

So if the room was 5 ft wide and 8 ft long, but the carpet came on a roll thats is 7ft wide then you will have to buy a carpet that is 8ft by 7ft, so you pay for the extra carpet even though you wouldn't use it.

Dosent work out like that mossy .

Carpet is still made in different widths, some 3.66 (12 ft) most 4m (13.12 ft) or 5m (16.4 ft).

Simply measure lenght of room or area to be covered , not forgetting the drop back on the doorway.

Length x width (choose which width 4>5m ?).

Best to measure in metric, eg length 5m x width 4m = 20 sq m x price per sq m .

Easy thing to do is get the shop to measure it for you , it free and should be correct.

Also carpet needs to run in the correct direction (pile) to colour match from room to room (and must run in the same direction if you need it to be seamed ) .

If the shop does not offer a free measuring service , go to one that does.
Cheap and Chearfull !!! try Carpetright, service can be poor in some stores but the cheapys they cut straigh from the roll so no waiting

It isn't as simple as that at all!!

It depends on the width at which the carpet comes on the roll. If the roll is 4m wide, you have to pay for all 4m of width, even if you don't need it.

A carpet fitter will also often charge you on how much carpet you need to buy, not the size of the room.

Eg. Room is 3m x 5m. You will pay for 5m of carpet off a 4m wide roll, so will be 20Sq/m not 15sq/m. Carpet fitter will charge you for 20sq/m of carpet at £x per Sq/m. You can however get the fitter to fit all left over bits elsewhere in the house as you have in effect paid for the fitting & carpet anyway.

You will normally save a few quid by calling a carpet fitter to come round to quote. He is usually cheaper than the fitters the carpet shop will quote with, plus he can also get you a better rate on your carpet.

They will also round up to the nearest meter, which can be a pain. If the room is say 3mx5.5m, and the carpet is on 4m width rolls, you will pay 4x6m which is 24sq/m, not the actual 16.5m you use!!

Carpet is a rip off. With underlay too it can be chuffin expensive.
