Nor dose it show any chip for chip and pin.

Just mentions 'You can you at any of our 8000 cash points or any ATM point. But umm how with no chip Confused
Someone enlighten me.

Sounds like it's a cash card - not a debit card.

If there's a magnetic strip on it then using your PIN you can withdraw cash from a hole in the wall. But if it's not a debit card there is no need for a chip or a signature - no-one will ever need to check your signature.

Does it say Switch or Maestro on it anywhere?

Like Jonny says, sounds like its just a cash card.

I just got a similar card through for my savings account, which isn't a current account.

Sounds like your account with them is not a "normal" type current account, which is why you've got this card through. If you have a current account, then you'll have a space for signature and a chip for PIN at least.

It's a cash card.

You've opened a cash account, not a current account.

Open a current account and you'll get a chip and pin card. ATM's have never, and will never, need chips on the cards that are put in them.

i thought I would of got a chip n pin but i (as normal) miss understood.
It dose say I can do DD, but im guessing this has to be set up on an online account.

Direct debit has nothing to do with the internet, or anything online.

It's just a way for companies (utilities or anything you subscribe to) of taking money out of your account every month, and you not having to action it.

How's your credit history? Have you ever missed any payments, been in a substantial amount of debt or has anyone ever claimed money off you?

Yea I am in debt. I belonged to a company who helped me cut it down monthly, so the 3rd party would take my cash each month to spread about.
I took the plung and ive come off that. Im slowly but surly getting there myself. Both my credit cards are back in the limit and my loan is also almost there.
Just trying to get credit history to a reasonble state atm.

That'll be it then.

You won't be able to get an HSBC current account for at least a couple of years I'd imagine - best just stick with the ones you have.

No it was Payplan.
I was going to set up an account with a company (forgot the name)
They pay your bills with a set amoutn of your money but they take 20-30 quid a month in fees for doing so.
Just before i was about to set it up, good ol' Kat found payplan and there absoulty free of charge. So 100% of you cash will go to the creditors.
I would advise on them if anyone if doing this with someone else.
May take up to 3 weeks to get things rolling but worth it.

What benefit does it have over paying it off yourself?

Payplan aren't free - I doubt they're doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, you must lose out somewhere.

Yes they are.

There one of the few places that do it for free, as far as I know Payplan are paid for by the banking industry.

There is also CCCS which is a registered charity. Unfortunately both these can be extremely busy.

If your min payment was 50 per month on a credit card, and the intrest was added on top I couldnt afford it.
Well I could but i would be 'just getting by'
Payplan have powers to lower the payment and stop the intrest alltogether.
Only down side is, it will take you longer to clear your debts.
