I'll try and keep it short,

last december i was downed by a car pulling out from behind a bus,(wet road) i took action and braked hard and turned to avoid him, yes i know worst thing to do, but lesson learnt.

the car driver didn't indicate and obviously wasn't aware of my presence to his right.

the front wheel locks and i visit the floor at about 25 mph.
the driver sees me in his mirror and stops, gets out with his passenger as i'm struggling to get my leg out from under the bike.

At the same time both driver and passenger say "it's alright mate we're police, we'll take care of your bike".

it was an unmarked police car with two cid officers Neutral

so i hobble over to the pavement and the coppers and the driver behind me (who acted as my witness) pick up the bike and bring it over.

i say to the driver "why didn't you indicate" he ignored that one. Rolling Eyes

statements where taken by a marked unit and a medic called for the road rash on the knee and hip (the one day i though not to wear my trousers and go with jeans). Crying or Very sad

the police accepted no responsibility for the accident but upon parting the passenger tells me that the met have got very good insurance cover for this sort of thing, kind of taking responsibility.

the witness had the same story as me, "car pulls out in front of bike, biker swerves and falls, no contact with car is made".

so i get in touch with my insurers at the time, Devitt, they appoint a solicitor and for the past months they have been talking about getting money out of them,

without going into details i received a letter yesterday from the solicitors with an attached copy of a letter from the police stating that they have no record of this accident being caused by their officers and that no compensation shall be offered due to it not being their fault.

well what happened to mine and the witnesses statement??

it's like it never happened, the money would be nice of course but i'd more like to show up bad driving, especially from police who should know better Evil or Very Mad

so i have passed on the witnesses details to the solicitor and maybe they can do something about it, due to me being in abit of shock at the time i didn't think to ask for names and addresses,
i got a cad number and the number of the car. luckily the witness gave me all his details.

coppers can be so cagey when they are to blame.

has anyone else had run ins with the police in this way and they try to get away with it??

It's always been the way. They look after their own and will fuck anyone over in doing it.

It's shocking, I hear similar stories every so often.

My uncle was stationary waiting to turn left at a junction and a police car with the blues and twos on cut the corner too much and hit the front corner of his car.
There were witnesses all around and I'm pretty sure he had to claim from his own insurance!

I have had this type of thing happen. You must hit the car. That was the advice from the solicitor. Otherwise a court would not be able to tell if it was your lack of driving ability which meant you were unable to avoid dropping the bike (i.e. you fell and then blamed some passing motorist).

Witnesses may have said they were not sure that the accident was attributable to the cars actions. Its a difficult scenario, but I doubt it would have gone any other way.

Move on, plenty worse things happen in life, I hope you don't have this again.

Also, if approaching a stopped bus, cars will pull out to overtake, its just something you have to plan for.

All the best.

Sorry to hear about this. Doesn't surprise me at all though, I know someone who had a similar thing happen in a car. Isn't there an independant police complaints thingy? You could complain to them. It'd more than likely be another waste of time though.

Did you see their Warrant cards/ID at the time, or take down their names? What car were they driving - reason for asking is that whilst they may say that they are Met CID Officers they might have been members of another security agency, hence the reason why the Met has no record of it.

Gives you faith in British justice doesn't it.

I have no faith, I don't even bother reporting things now, because nothing will happen.
