Lead free bullets

Quote:
Included in the list of tree-hugging hardware is the "lead-free" bullet, offering clear advantages over the traditional variety which "can harm the environment and pose a risk to people".

Lead free cartridges were frowned upon when I used to use my shotgun as the shot would scratch the barrel to buggery after a period of time, whereas lead doesn't.

Although, in respect to using them in guns, then, I suppose it makes bugger all difference to the person getting shot. Laughing

Off on a bit of a tangent one of the safest bullets to be shot with is a full metal jacket (or see here). That's because it's more likely to pass through rather than fragmenting (but range is important factor). From a military view this is desirable as it creates casualties (wounded takes 2 other people to carry, dead need zero).

As far as I'm aware no nuclear devices have been exploded since 1998 (last being tests by India and Pakistan). So that's a good thing then Confused

Just some thoughts.

Some of us would rather just not have wars, or at least not get involved when other people have them. Surely thats not rose tinted, thats common sense.

Its common sense for a state to have the means to defend its self, unless every other state shared the same view of peace which is never going to happen every state needs the means to defend its self or they risk being walked over by aggresive states.

Having the view that this country should,nt have armed forces or a arms industry is completey foolish.

I think the point of the lead free rounds is for the safety of the people handling them, rather than the people "receiving" them...

The means to defend itself I can agree with - the absolute minimum army, navy, and air force required to defend the country.

The means to fight a war 6000 miles away in a country 99% of the people from this country have never been to, thats not necessary. In fact its a waste in every sense of the word.
