Excellent. Out of interest, I`ve just picked up a digital SLR so was considering taking, purely for the practice of actually using it! Laughing What equipment to you use?

Canon 350D

Just with the two start up lenses that come with the kit.

I`m a little short on zoom with the 55-200, but if you don`t try things out, you`ll never get anywhere!

200mm is plenty of length if you stand on the inside of Druids Thumbs Up

Cheers!

I`m going to take it, just to see what I can get. I you don`t practice things you`ll never learn I guess!

I hope the weather holds out a bit, although I don`t think we`re going to have a lot of luck on that one.....

Depends on the light on the day, but I try and keep it as low as I can get away with to stop the picture getting noisy. As I said in the other post, the inside of Druids is excellent for pictures - you can get them entering the corner (shot at 108mm):

https://img178.imageshack.us/img178/8098/img8435ka9.jpg

...then move position and get shots midcorner (135mm):

https://img156.imageshack.us/img156/9136/img8035pd2.jpg

...then move again and get shots of them exiting (135mm):

https://img178.imageshack.us/img178/5646/img8683le9.jpg

The biggest pain there (apart from the million other people trying to take pictures) is the sun - try not to shoot into it too much, because you'll just end up with big, dark shadows on the nearer side of the bike. It's better there in the afternoon when the sun has shifted, although it's always a nightmare there when it's a clear day (the ones above are hardly ideal).

If you want to be safe, on your 350D pick ISO 400. If it's sunny I'd go with 200, but not as high as 800 (since you don't have 1/3 stops). More important though is the shutter speed (assuming you'll use shutter priority?). Nothing worse than the 1/2000s speed that some people (and the "sports" mode on the camera) would use - it freezes time itself and give absolutely no sense of speed. If you're starting out with panning (in these positions above) have a go at 1/640s and work down if they look like they're coming out well. When they're coming out spot on at 1/100s then you'll have cracked it! Wink

I'm aware that I'm rambling now (hey, I'm bored...) so I'll shut up!

Oh, don't forget the rest of the circuit either. You can shoot over some of the fencing around the GP circuit, although I've only been round it once so I'm not the best qualified to talk on the other corners.

If you go round to clearways I think it if, there's a nice gap in the fence that I assume is for photographers. You can get them tipping in after the GP straight, and also get the bridge in the background.

But as it has been said, Druids has it all really.

I've got a verbal paddock/pit pass from Michael Rutter, but its not worth the hassle to see if verbal translates to real.

What a day, some great racing, weather that you didn`t know what the hell it was going to do and two hours to get out of the car park.

SORT OUT THE SODDING PARKING! Evil or Very Mad

That was the only downside to the day for me.

Some photos!

Wayo I finished 17th in the 125GP race today. Very soggy indeed lol, we were stuck on the grid for 30mins while it stopped lighting and hailing. There were 50 entrants so there I was thinking I wasn't goin to qualify!!! Mint weekend anyway. You could hear that GP bike all the way round the track haha!

Those settings worked an absolute treat! I tried messing about with the AF modes a bit to see what difference it made, it`s the first motorsport photography I`ve ever done, I`m quietly pleased with the outcome.

I can`t say they would`ve come out as good without your advice!
