Hi - Just got a nice KTM Duke 2003 from the Uk (trough E-bay)

Everythin seems fine and it´s HPI clear, and the bike carry the correct Engine number.

The problem is that I cant find the VIN number on the Frame Shocked

This is from the KTM website "KTM Vin Number Identification

The vin can usually be found on the steering column or neck of the frame"

No number here ....guys - do you have any sugestions - i'm stuck

Cheers

No number, nor plate .....

If it have been removed, is has been done very professional. No sign og grinder or anything, just a smooth surface.

Can it be a replacement frame without numbers, if the bike has been crashed ?

i doubt it, mabee it was never stamped from the factory, or maybee as you say it was done professionally, and they have ground away the number and filled it sanded and then repainted it,
if your engine matches your documents, then i would say don't worry too much, there isn't too much you can do frame wise,
Very Happy
good luck Very Happy
sorry im not much help really Very Happy

You're going to have a problem come MOT time if they can't see a VIN number

As you sit on the bike the Chassis No. should be on the right hand side of the headstock. Why did you accept the bike without checking the frame No. ?

Well there are many stupid ressons why I did not check the frame nr.

1. I was in a hurry - sad reality, stupid dessision
2. The bike was HPI clear and the enginenumber was the only number stated on the HPI dockument
3. The seller told that the frame nr. could be under the tank - I did not have any tools with me in the middle of London
4. For some resson, I trust most peopel until other can be justified - by bigges mistake.

I'v borght more than 40 cars and 20 bikes, and never been cheated Karma seems that I run out of luck.

What would a smart guy like you guys do -
repport to the police Idea
Go to the lawyer (I work with 265 of them each day, in a lawfirm)
, or hammer the correct number in the frame.

Thanks a lot for your support - this is realy frustrating .....being so good dam stupid not to check the frame nr. when buying

Take a ride over to a KTM dealer and have a look to see where the frame number is on one of their bikes (preferably a 2003), just in case it's somewhere else.

As for your bike, I think I'd keep quiet about it - it's very unlikely you'd end up with your money back if it was a ringer (and it would take a lot of time and hassle) - and the worst that could happen is you loose your bike completely. Although if it was HPI clear on the reg and engine number, I guess it's not stolen - but has possibly had a new frame. You could always stamp the number yourself.

Try sanding the paint back where you would expect it to be, it might just have been painted over, I've seen it done before on a couple of bikes my mates have had (the number was just made of dots and wasn't very deep so the paint covered them easily)

You say London, where abouts in London are you? I'd like to have a look at the bike, the V5 and the HPI check if possible.

After I have a look I can advise you better.

Some of the HPI websites will give you compo if they get something wrong. Check where you got the HPI check from.

Thanks

Well I'm actualy based in Denmark Copenhagen, but travels a lot in the UK, and twice a year I bring back a bike hence it's a lot cheaper in the UK than here in Denmark.

The bike was sold with a new MOT and the HPI was the one offered by ebay from @hpi.co.uk (HPI ltd)

Someone on the MOT center must have very red ears, if he hav'nt checked the framenumber.

Not really much anyone can do without you bringing the bike back to the UK. Didn't it raise a flag with HPI that it didn't have a recorded VIN No.?

Is the bike registered on an 03 or 53 plate?

Well if you want to do anything you're gonna have to return the bike to the UK. I'm not saying its stolen just that its nigh on impossible to check the bike while its out of the country.
