I have a KR1-S cylinder head sat here, which went off for machining due to debris damage to the combustion chamber (£30). The invoice states that it has been welded, but to me it just looks as if it has been skimmed and tidied up as all the pitting is still there.

I understand it can create 'hot spots' and assume it is important that the combustion chamber isn't like swiss cheese. Worth sending it back? (and complaining if they claim it has been welded)

if the pitting is in the combustion chamber then as long as its not serious, then it wont matter. the skimming will of been on the "mating" surface were the head gasket would go, did you take this to a proper place that does lots of engine work or just a enginering company? id say go back and have a chat with them find out what has or hasnt been done.

Welding would only be used in rare cases on a cylinder head its a lot of heat and only really used for cracks etc, if they had to full the pitting with weld then they would need to do some very very very fancy machineing to get it back to how it used 2 be, and with it being a 2 stroke as well the combustion chamber is kinda critical to the running of the engine.

A well known two-stroke specialist, however I have seen barrels come back from there with shoddy work so thought I may as well check.
