Can someone help me locate the following wires to fit the amcumen dg8.
I am using the mechanical speedo wiring kit.

I have tried various and dont seem to be gettin anywhere. I need the following wires, from behind the clocks:

Switched live (ignition)
Earth
Neutral light indicator
Tacho - this is the main problem...
Instructions say to use crankshaft sensor, half effect trigger, or coil low tension wire. ANy ideas?

Ive been using a multimeter and think the following are right so far, but please correct me if wrong as im pulling my hair out:

Switched live (ignition) - brown
Earth - grey
Neutral light indicator - light green
Tacho - ???

ANyone else fitted one of these?

Jason

educated guess, so don't blame me etc.

switched live : black probe on battery -ve, red probe on candidate wire, measuring volts, should show 12v with ignition on and 0v with ignition off.

earth : black probe on battry -ve, red probe on candidate wire, measure resistance (ohms), should show zero ohms at all times.

neutral switch :

tach : to find the coil low tension wire, look at the coils, there should be two. each coil should have two small wires going to it. they should be a total if 3 different colours, i.e. one wire is the same colour on both coils. ignore this wire on both coils and connect your "tach" wire to any one of the other two.

EDITED neutral swich advice, which was bollocks!

thanks for you help.

I found a red wire goes to both. A green wire goes to one side and a black wire to the other side.

The green or black will provide the engine speed to the dg8?

My neutral light switches to earth, so when in neutral the circuit becomes live?
The neutral bulb has a switched live connection (brown) and a wire from the neutral switch(light green).

So i connect to the light green wire?

The problem now, i have found, is that there is an issue with my neutral light.

I have a problem when indicating right, its affecting the neutral light, but not when indicating left.

Now my neutral light is getting a mind of its own and doesnt even come on sometimes.

Ive removed, cleaned and re fitted the neutral switch. The wire (light green)seems ok.

I guess its a earth problem? Where to i check? The only earth i can find is on top of the engine block, near the breather hose.

Hokay:

Firstly, i don't have a wiring diagram for your bike, so this is a certain amount of guesswork. Satisfy yourself first etc.

Either the green or black wires should be a "coil low tension" wire. Each one should/will pulse once per crank revolution, but 180% out from each other. I think for your purposes you can pick either. As an additional check, look on your cdi/ignitor box, you should see the same green and black wires.

I think it would be best if you connect your neutral wire to the SWITCHED side of the bulb - light green.

I'd start looking for your indicator problem by tracing the earth wires from the right hand side indicators, but it's just a matter of being methodological. If it stops working again, just do a quick sanity check to make sure you have 12v on the brown wire.

I could not find an erath problem anywhere. In a last attempt i replaced my neutral switch and this seems to have resolved the issue!!

The DG8 is now installed, just got to 'teach' it my gears.

I will have a step by step guide done soon, if anyone is interested.
