Puddles

Ho hum.

Riding to work this morning after it chucked it down with rain I came to a slightly flooded bit of road. Car was stopped just before it (they had conked out going through it).

Looked at it and thought it wasn't that deep, and the air intake on the FZR is pretty high up so went through it. Realised just how deep it was when the bow wave came over the top of the screen of the bike! Water was deep enough to just about reach the bottom of the headlight.

Might reconsider riding through it the next time there is a puddle there.

Hi

Killed a car engine like that a few years back. Hydrauliced and blew the head gasket out of the side of the engine.

The air intake for the RX is pretty high up, the exhaust even higher, sounds like great fun! Right enough im not entirely convinced the RX would have the power to make its way through Laughing

It reminds me of a seasonal stream I used to cross quite frequently on my little 2stroke suzuki when I was younger. I really had to rev the engine hard, to prevent the water from flowing back into the exhaust and killing the engine midstream. The drum brakes never worked for the next few miles either.

Hmm, think this is why I was taught not to ride through them on my DAS.

Plus the fact there could be a hole, broken water main, whatever underneath there, somewhere I don't fancy putting my front wheel.

I thought it was bad enough when I had a 'puddle' coming up to my knees on the VT500 yesterday on the way to work! There was thunder and lightening all of the 40 miles to work.

Needless to say I got pretty wet and had to spend most of the day commando style while Babyams went home and stuck my gear in her tumble drier!

Wettest day of the year so far in the midlands? I think so

*boring old fart mode* After rideing through a big puddle check your brakes, after a thorough soaking they may not work, give the brakes a few goes after getting out the other side!

Do like a good puddle, got to be very carefull about them as has been said, can be hard to get up after a bike has fallen on you, add that to being under water sucking sewage tainted water into your lungs under a couple of hundered kg of wet bike on you..

i went two up through a large puddle/small pond through some lanes on a gz 125 (cruiser, VERY low) the water came past the engine and up to mine and the passengers knees, had to keep plowing through so water didnt go down my exhaust.

looking back it was funny, at the time it wasnt, damn near sunk my bike.

Three days after I bought my K1200R I was riding into London and came across a flooded road.
I stupidly decided to go for it.

Somehow I managed to get through it, also miraculously even though the main air intakes at the front were half submerged the bike kept going.

I still haven’t figured out how the engine didn't flood. Confused

I rode through a little valley thing flooded with a usually tame ford on the NSR, was deep enough to come over my boots... it cut out about 5 minutes afterwards because the side stand sensor had got wet... well I think that was why, I waited 20 minutes in the sun and it fired again Very Happy
