My Nexxus exhaust system is beggining to crack where the end can join's the main exhaust pipe (downpipe?). I am going to replace the system, will get a weld bodged on but this will make it more succeptable to corrosion so will need replacing sooner or later.

What I would like to know is does an original exhaust from a Kawasaki ER-5 fit onto a GPZ500s D without any modification bar to the rear hanger, will it fit under the belly pan etc?

Thanks for any help.

P.S. I'm after a GPZ exhaust system if anyone knows of one going spare, original or aftermarket in good condition.

Mine cracked round that weld and fell off after a crash about eight years ago. I got it welded back on and it is still solid and in use on the bike (albeit a trifle tatty looking now).

As far as I'm aware an ER-5 system will not fit onto a GPZ and visa versa.

Also even if you did manage to bodge it on, it wouldn't do the GPZ engine much good until you got the engine mixture changed to match it. The GPZ is a good 10Hp more powerful than the ER-5.

I would get it welded then paint the weld with some high temperature paint. This should help protect the external surface at least and make it last a bit longer.

Why would it be more likely to corrode? Im assuming the pipe is stainless? Stainless welds wont corrode any more than the existing ones holding it together. Take it to an engineering firm who do stainless welding.

Could do. Or my old man can bodge it who doesnt do stainless welding. Not a bodge, but not the required weld, so will be exposed to corrosion. May just do that then paint it with heat resistant paint to avoid the onset of corrosion, it isn't a massie crack, just hairline at the minute, but if not dealth with will go.

Thanks for the advice, shall continue to scour ebay as well. Smile
