If your not interested turn away now.

These came through the post today Thumbs Up

Set of grooved brake pads, but i accidently got the vented ones so need to get the same in solid form. Set of vented disks for sale if anyone wants them Laughing .

And some decent pads. EBC Green stuff pads, less dust, better braking. Should improve the rather shoddy brakes on the 106, which needed changing anyway. Thought id try and improve the brakes,as there is only disks on the front.

Nice and safe mod.

Brakes are the last of peoples ideas on modding a car. That should make a drastic change to the stopping power of the little Pug. I would nt recommend changing the drums as it pointless unless you are going to turbo or upgrade the engine.

I am NOT impressed with the brakes on the Type R, the wifes Ka feels better and sharper Rolling Eyes

Rear drums are adequate. Changed the pads and some of the internals when we bought it and they seem to be working well enough.

I agree though, can't see it needing much more stopping power Thumbs Up

Next thing is either to upgrade the crappy paper main door speakers, or to buy a suspension kit. Lowered springs (shite... ive turned pikey) and some decent dampers. Want to do it right and get the whole kit, not just crappy low stiff springs that will make it handle like crap and blow the dampers every month.

Anyone know a decent brand for suspension upgrades?

cheers Thumbs Up

Remember you wont get any of this money that you are spending back when you sell it. Infact you'll probably loose money on the value of the car.

Yeh but think about it, who's going to be wanting to buy it when its up for sale? Probably someone who is 18/19 and is willing to pay for the mods, thinking they add value.

If not i can whip all the standard parts back on and sell on the aftermarket do-das. Im making sure everything i do is reversable.

Upgrading the suspsension will make the car handle better, but make the ride comfort a little stiffer.

Remember that big wheels will have a detremental effect on the handling, I think the optimum wheel size for a car that size is 15" (standard Wink)

With ICE, once you get a sub and some decent speakers, you will not believe how good music sounds, the down side is that the neighbours will also be able to hear it Laughing

The suspension depends on how much you want to spend. For about £250 you won't go far wrong with a set of Bilstein black dampers and Eibach springs.

Springs Wink

Suspnesion is in 2 parts, coils and dampers. The damppers can be adjustable to alter the cars handling for different tracks etc.

I don't know personally. I'm going to pay one of my dads mechanics to do it for me. If you want though i could find out how to do it and give you a little write up? Each 'click' on the torsion bar is 30mm... thats all i realy know.

It's quite a tricky job from what iv'e heard, you may not be able to do it yourself.

It's getting the trailing arms off side thats the bitch to allow the unclicking of the bar.......

Before you lower the backend make sure your rear torsion bearings are not worn atall. I was going to lower mine a few years ago and found my bearings were shagged on one side. Ended up buying new bearings which didnt cure it because the beam had been eaten away by the shagged bearings. Embarassed So now my vtr has serious play in the nearside rear. Laughing

When I read Green Stuff I thought "oh no, poor bugger" I had some on my Teg type r about 5 years ago and they were dire.
However Thumbs Up Was chatting to a mate 'up north' tonight and mentioned them "remember those crappy green stuff pads I fitted?" He said they've changed the compound and are much, much better than of old. Not good enough for track days but excellent for normal driving and the occasional blast.
Hope they work out for you.

Exact same problem with my mates 106gti. Had a nasty clunk on the NS, so it was stripped down, and after some head scratching we worked out that it was the fittings on the end of the anti-roll bar that were thumping around and elongating everything.

I've heard good things about them, so i thought id try them out. Got to be better than standards anyway Laughing

Palmer,

If you are after speakers, I think I might have a set of door speakers from my 'car days'. Have to check I still have them and what size they are.

Also, I know I have a set of Kenwood 7x10's (like 6x9's, only, err, bigger!), they are about 7 years old, but, have never been used, still in original box with all necessary parts etc...

bilstein suspension is top notch, but dont go lower than a 30mil drop otherwise the ride quality will be nasty...
lowering torsion bars isnt too hard, just take it nice and styeady, and be prepared to fork out for new bearings/seals if it needs them.
and well done for modding the brakes first Thumbs Up

How about buying a set of calipers to go with the vented disks?

All the best
