When I turn the ignition off on my NSR, the lights go off, the rev needle and temp needle drop down but the engine keeps running, does anybody know how to sort this out? The only way I can switch it off is either to stall it or put it in gear with the stand down.

Thanks

Silva

I had a similar problem with my old Mini, it was caused by a sticking throttle cable.

Wouldn't that mean that the revs will increase and it won't idle properly though?

It would all depend in where the cable was binding, if it was at the final few mm then it may just prevent the revs from dropping keeping the engine going.

The switch is stiff, you have to jiggle it to turn it sometimes. So you think that is the culpret?

does the kill switch stop the engine? if that ok then it most likly a dodgy contact or faulty switch.

I haven't tried the kill switch, I've heard you're not really supposed to because it causes damage

Depends on how the bike is wired up - either the kill circuit isn't working (normally, the kill switch circuit works in exactly the same as your non-functional circuit that goes through the ignition switch), or it's been hotwired in the past Smile

I've stopped every bike I've ever owned every day with the engine kill switch, never done mine any harm yet. Why should it, it just stops the engine ignition in the same way as turning the key, certainly on a fuel injected bike*.

*It's not a good idea to flick the kill switch when moving on a carbed bike, as whilst it turns off the ignition it doesn't turn off the fueling. Means fuel is still flowing through the engine as it 'free wheels' and this can cause damage to a catalytic convertor if one is fitted and/or will shoot blue flames out of the back when you turn the switch back on.

More or less, but dont pull the clutch in, just ride along, kill switch, give a bit rev maybe then killswitch back on and BANG!!!

Used to do it in a couple of my old cars!

You have to have the clutch out so the engine is still turning and drawing in fuel

I would suggest that you have a bad earth connection from the ignition switch or the switch itself is faulty.

i have nor read all your answers , but i think it's due to a loose contact on the CDI , check your wiring there
