I've finally bit the bullet and am booked into get my eyes fixed Star Wars stylee on Saturday.

I spoke to a very helpful chap on BCF sometime ago, sorry I forget who Embarassed

, but I think it was him who pointed to me towards Ebay.

I was searching around on the 'net and decided on www.optimax.co.uk as they had a clinic near me and their prices weren't horrendous. Also, obviously I've done some research into this and the feedback on them is very good.

I phoned up today just to book the consultation but the bloke on the phone said if I'm suitable they can do me there and then Very Happy

He said it would cost £1250 so I mentioned I've seen it advertised on Ebay for £895 for both eyes and he said just give me your username and the auction number and you can have it for the reduced price.

So fingers crossed after Saturday I'll have 20/20 vision.

Anyone else had it done?

my stepbrother had it done years ago and said it's the best money he has ever spent.

had to put up with the pain of putting contacts in for years.

if i had 1000 pounds going spare to spend on it i would have it done but thats a lot of beer money Thumbs Up

Sounds very interesting. I don't have perfect eyes, but they aren't quite bad enough to justify spending that sort of money. Although when I get older that may well change!

I like the idea of it, but think the technology isn't mature enough. The eye isn't exactly designed to have a layer burnt off, and it isn't a permanent solution. Can't help wondering what people would think when, having had laser surgery in their 30s/40s, they find that their eyes are screwed in their 60s, and in a position where they can't have surgery due to lack of material. Just a thought.

I'm not normally like this, but the idea of someone lasering my eyes turns my stomach. And like Shaggy, I wonder about the effects in twenty or thirty years from now...

I'll stick with contact lenses I think, but hope all goes well Thumbs Up

I had my eyes done by Optimax.

I had Implant Lenses though, meaning in the future if needs be the procedure can be reversed by removing the lenses.

Where are you having it done, in London?

never had any problems, money well spent.

no more broken glasses when she falls flat on her face on a friday night... so all good.

I got it done this jan! Probably the best thing to do. I was fed up wearing specs and contacts so took the plunge. Ensured that am going for the best possible option in that, which was i think waverfront ... and it costed me only £400.. Twisted Evil

Mind you that was on holiday to india... !

So you shall be walking about in sunglasses in winter, so not to damage your new techno eyes.

Bono wears sunglasses all the time.

Its almost a year since I had mine done and it was the best £3000 I have ever spent. However, I would be very cautious if they are willing to operate there and then if you are suitable! The drops you have in your eyes at the initial consultation dilate your pupils and blur vision (with glasses) so surgery cannot be done with them in there. You have to go a week without lenses beforehand too. They dont sedate you, its done with eye drops which numb your eyes, its uncomfortable when the drops wear out and you will find that you will not be able to keep your eyes open for long and you will need sunglasses, even at night! (mine were done at 7.30pm and it was pitch black and I still couldnt cope with the headlights from the cars) and you wont be given painkillers, just eye drops you need to use for a couple of weeks.
I would seriously not consider having it done the same time as the consultation.

I've spoken to the clinic and the base £895 is for epi-lasek. I'm hoping this is suitable as I have a prescription of -2.75 in one eye and -3.00 in the other and as far as I'm aware my eyes are a normal shape.

I've heard good things about Optimax - reviews I've read said there are no pressure on sales and the consultant will recommend the cheaper options if they are the ones most suitable for your eyes rather than pushing for more expensive unnecessary treatments.

The recovery seems to vary from person to person but the general concensus is that it's not very pleasant. However, the epi-lasek is less intrusive than Lasik so recovery is less painful and quicker.

I'm all booked in so roll on Saturday.
