It's thick black Ooze.
It means the fairing needs to come off.
No luck. Sad

Thick and pitch black sounds like oil which is full of carbon. I guess you'll be checking your exhaust first. (I am assuming that the bike is well maintained)

okay, iv taken the fairings off and their was oil all over the front of the transmission casing, so iv cleaned it with a pressure washed and cloth to try and see where its coming from, looks like its leaking out of the casing, see below

does this mean the seals need replacing? or is there something less drastic that can be done? im starting to worry about seizing gears now..... Shocked

Get some gunk into that and get it 'clean'.
Check fluid levels.
Run it till it's warm and dry.

Look around the engine with a good light source.
Try spraying the joints with a Dry Deodorant spray to show up wet patches.

But you will need to take time to clean it. Properly.... Evil or Very Mad

Has the engine been 'cooked'?

yeah thats a before pic.....

its not exactly sparkling now, but its better than that

nah its hasnt been used more than before, i always let it warm up properly before using it, i mean a few drops of oil wouldnt worry me if it wasnt the fact that the gears could seize

Jet washing over a gasket can never be good. Might have caused the problem in the first place.

Is there a power valve type thing on the front of the cylinder at the
exhaust port that might have a blown seal.

With respect Sir, If the gasket is 'sound' then a normal 'going over' with a jet wash won't do any harm.

I agree directing the jet straight into the joint between the mating surfaces would not be the most wise-est of practices.

The most important agent is an effective and safe solvent.

This will emulsify any crap without harm to machine or human or our fagile environ. Karma

Hi there,

That is gunk leaking from the power valve assembly. Inside the valve housing the is a valve stem seal as the valve and seal wear it starts to leak, just change it and all will be ok. It's also worth cleaning the valve blade as this will improve engine response.
