Just read all through your thread; what an incredible project this is! Makes me feel like I'm skimping out on the work I'm doing to mine at the moment.

You must have spent a fortune as well, but at the end you'll have a 20+ year old bike that looks brand new. I'd love to own one someday!

Cheers.
Well the beauty of this bike (unlike my other vfr project) is that it hasn't cost me a fortune.
Most of the parts have come as spares from my other bike or stuff collected over the years.

The RVF wheels are an un-needed exception because they dont come up too often and were a good price from a friend.

I have cleaned up the carbs ready to be modified to HRC spec.
They have come up surprisingly well!
A few bits need to go to the zinc coater, need to get new seals for the float bowls and new screws before I can start rebuilding them.

Thought about it but I dont really have the space for it all. Or the time tbh.
The guy I go to does me a really good price and will do any sized batch.
Why have the outlay of all the gear when it costs me so little to have it professionally done.

Hi,

No idea how much it costs myself as I've never had any done. I just assumed that it would be pricey. Is it cheap for you because you know someone or is it just generally a cheap process?

Some more progress, although not very much, have been sick as a dog this week with man flu.

The lower rad fan and mount has been painted and treated to some new ss nuts. Also got it fitted to the rad, needed to turn up a small spacer and bend a few mounts around to get it to sit right.
Ran out of 6mm capheads so I couldn't get it all finished off.

https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/IMG_2418_zpsaea4b210.jpg

Next jobs also on the list are, rebuild the carbs and clean and mount these to the gold RVF wheels.

Cheers bud Thumbs Up

Finally found a HRC carbon inlet tray for not silly money.
Gave it a trail fit, then a trim in a few areas.
Just need to finish the carbs now, also some how the throttle cables I have are way too long. Like they were extended for a renthal bar conversion, weird. So now I also have to get a new set of cables Mad !

Complains about cables.

Laughing My brain works very strangely sometimes.
I suppose its because its an added £30 that I couldve spent somewhere else.

Got some more capheads so I got the lower rad all buttoned and wired up. Just the hoses to do on that.

Have also built the carbs to HRC spec.

The standard that you build to is remarkable...

I really would not have the patience for this. How much does it cost to get the carbs to HRC spec? What is the expected performance increase?

Cheers Paddy

Roughly £100 for all the needles, HRC bits from Rick
£120ish for the tyga carbon inlet tray (new)
£20-30-40 for some nc24 carbs to rob the slides
New seals bolts etc

Apparently there is a good few horses to be made, I've no idea what the actual gain would be. The RVF system with a free flowing can is supposed to make good power. I suspect any real power the carbs will contribute to will be some internal work (which is intended for the spare engine). Atm I just want to get the bike finished.
Will be awful on the road but awesome on the track.

So, it is a few hundred really to get things spot on.

Basically what you have is a faster, more bling VFR? I wouldn't want to take that on track, be too worried about smashing the few thou put in. Laughing

Well May day is the plan.

Tried cleaning the dics but they would just not come up very nice.
So I cheated and robbed the very clean ones from the Foggy rep and replaced them with the not so clean ones. That bike is nice but not uber clean.

And heres the result.
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/7C4C403A-F9EC-4028-BAB4-6D5A451D47B9-594-000001129EC4E362_zps922fe4f8.jpg

And marked up with some F1 style Torque seal.
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/2C2545A6-4CF2-4724-876B-703A7213EFBB-594-00000112BAED43F8_zps017dc051.jpg

Its boxed back up now with the matching rear waiting for tyres.

Pulled my box of brake bits out. Got a blade radial master cylinder in there. No idea if the ratio is any good, will have a closer look later.
The callipers need a good clean up but are in very good condition. I will reuse the seals unless I see something necessitating renewing them.

They are what impact drivers were invented for. Though reservoir screws themselves were actually invented to teach people how to drill out screw heads.

Those screws look worse than they really are, came out fine with a decent screwdriver. A lot of people strip them because they use a posidrive screwdriver instead of a cross head.

Today I have been mostly cleaning brake calipers.
Decided to take the billet 6 pots off the Honda Britain rep and put the oem stock brakes back on after they've been serviced. The billet ones will go onto this trackbike after being serviced.
