I dropped my bike and the front brake got banged.
Now I have to pump it to get a firm short travel.
Is it time to get a master cyl. repair kit?

Hi

Might have damaged the seals. Also possible that lying on its side has just allowed air into the brake lines. It is quite easy to get air trapped around the top banjo bolt, and also in the master cylinder depending on the angle it sits at.

Wrap the top banjo up in cloth, pull the lever hard and crack off the top banjo and tighten it up again (the cloth is there to stop the fluid spraying out over everything).

Hopefully that will fix it, but it not try angling the master cylinder such that air will rise to where the piston is in the master cylinder (might need it on the side stand at an odd angle, might even need to take the m/c off). With the cap off try pulling the lever slightly, which often pushes bubbles out from the master cylinder.

All the best

Keith

flushed out old fluid. Tried brake. No better.
Bought a Pressure bleeding kit.
Fitted kit. Pressurized fluid reservoir and ran about 200ml fluid through to both caliper bleeders. No change.
Will pressurize from caliper bleeder next.
Sad

Might work if you have a bit of air in the system....Pull the brake leaver back (so the brakes are firmly on) and tie it and leave it overnight.....Next day flick the brake lines with your finger (or tap them with a screwdriver) this should make any small amounts of trapped air go up to the resevoir. Not guaranteed though.

Tried tying back the lever o/night last week. Sad

Bled from caliper bleeder to master cyl res today. Sad

Tried holding the res above the level of the master cyl and flicking,
twidling, piddling and widdling the lever to get air out. Sad

The pile of shite is going to the dealer tomorrow.
I still think the master cylinder copped it somehow in the spill.
I hope to get the real deal from the dealer mechanic.
The bikes useless without a proper brake.

I don't know what the master cyl is made of but may be a mechanical defect allowing the charge of fluid to escape back to the res when the lever is not used for a while.
I know what air in the system should feel like.

Probably because theres nothing wrong with the M/C & what you actually did was bugger the disc when it fell over & thats pushing the pistons back at it rotates...

Bang on.
I was sure it was something simple.
Me Laughing
I went to two bike shops as well they said "air".
I was sure it was more than that.

I jacked the wheel off the ground and spun the wheel round. The righthand disc spider is bent in about 3/16" It is pushing the pad into the caliper cylinder.

New disc £180
Pattern ????

Cheers for the advice ZRX61 Thumbs Up

Damn, beat me to it, I was just getting ready to say 'disc'.

Try ABE (All Bike Engineering) or Stealth Brake Discs in google for a replacement. Both will make a disc for you if you send yours to them (if they don't have the pattern).

Cheers

Grim

P.S Two dealers didn't spot this? How crap are dealers these days?

I ordered OEM from the dealer. Damn Sad Twisted Evil
It was only verbal over the phone to the dealer. So can't really fault them. But I will check this first next time..
I don't have a front paddock stand so never investigated fully. And it was baltic and blowing a mini hurricane at the time.
It's allways the same after you place the order two cheaper options arrive at your door. Laughing
