Right... looks like buying a cheap bike may not have been such a good idea!

I need to replace my fork seals... not such a big deal... the seals cost £12 from Bob Wright... but thats each... so it will cost me £24 for the seals alone!

The replacement brake lever costs £23.83... just because Gilera made weird ones...

Both the rear shocks are leaking... but they are complete units, so I can't just do the seals, they cost a massive £59! (I really hope thats for the pair, and not individually!!!)

The replacement body panel will set me back £39.95!

My speedo is knackered, as is the plastic surround... but Bob Wright charge £118 for the speedo alone, and £35 for the plastic surround!

So just for that lot... it will set me back £299.78!

HELP!

I need to rob a bank or something!

Can I use Honda CG125 rear shocks... someone said they were as good as the same... ?

Tryed the breakers?

It is quite daft the ammounts they charge, it is more or less a cg125 with better frame suspension and brakes..

If its a CHEAP bike then fit an aftermarket headlight assembly..

Try https://ratbike.org/ for ideas on runing a bike without being assraped every time you want to replace anything.. Thumbs Up

Cheap bikes are never a good idea. But if that's all you can afford at the time then hey. My cheap bike has cost as much as the bloody thing did in the first place.

Nice website... could be 'interesting' hearing my insurer's reaction when I tell them I've rebuild my bike out of random parts!

Like the middle pic best... but call me stupid... but I can't see a throttle on the top one (the diesel bike)...

Anyway... I'm having trouble finding breakers yards that have Gilera Coguar parts about. Anyone know of any good ones?

You're pleading poverty over 300 fucking quid?? Rolling Eyes If you can't afford to maintain a bike you can't afford to own one. Sell it now & get a bus pass.

That wasn't his point. He was pointing out that although he got a bike really cheaply, it has cost him a lot to maintain it. Never did he say "OMG where are all my funds, Oh noes the bank manager will shaft me."

Not pleading poverty... I could just do without paying it!

As for the bus pass thing... that bring me on to one of the main reasons I have my own transport... I think we have a grand total of two buses which run past this way... only one is a regular... and they barely go anywhere!

He suggesed robbing a bank instead...if he had the money in the bank he could just make a withdrawal without resorting to armed robbery, so his post does indicate he hasn't a pot to piss in.

Lay off a little mate, all he's pointing out is the rediculous price of very simple spare parts for his bike. No need for you to get all antsy about that, or to have a go at someone who hasn't stepped out of line one iota. Reel it in, for everyone's sake.

i bought my speedfight cheap. Ive needed various parts which wouldve cost a fortune if I had choose to pay retail..

Speedo cable cost me £5 (ebay). Normally around the £10 mark

I got a complete front end minus wheel and caliper for £40 (ebay). Bargin really since Ive used the hub/disc/shock from that so far. Discs are something like £40 new, front shock is around £40, the hub Ive no idea but I but you couldnt get one new for less than £40 either.

Front brake lever and master cylinder £15 (breakers) - I got a quote from one garage £75!!

Grabrail £5 (ebay)

Im now doing up my DT. You think yours was an expensive mistake....

It needs..
New swing arm (£40 breakers, New £100+?)
Side panel (£7 ebay, New £30 at least)
New handlebars (renthals £30)
New levers (£10 ebay. Gotta be £20 New)
New exhaust system (£130 for an after market but stock ones on ebay should easily find a minter for £40-50 but id rather an aftermarket
New grips (renthals £7)
New full set of indicators (£20)
New tank (Ok the old one is slightly dented but new they are like £100)
Sprocket and chain (ebay £45)
New rear shock possibly (not sure if the one thats on there is sagging or just normal. If its knackered thats another £60 at least!)

Seems to ride alrite. Praying the engine is ok though. Ive only ridden it around the block a few times..

OK... sorry to drag up this thread again... but I'm being really thick! I'm looking to replace the rear shocks on my bike... the bloke at the local garage thinks that aftermarket 125cc shocks won't be tough enough... as it is a heavy bike, he thinks shocks from a 200-250cc bike would be closer to what is on there.

But... my expertise of the internet seem to have gone downhill! I can't find them anywhere... which is really stupid really, because I'm just after aftermarket shocks!

My shocks have a 'ring' at both ends, so a bolt goes right through to attach it. The 'rings' are not offset -they are both in the centre. And the length from the middle of the top 'ring', to the middle of the bottom one is 32cm. I would prefer the springs to be chrome.

Why can't I find anything? Are the rear shocks called something else?

Cheers, Ed.M

P.s. My bike seems too new to get loads of bits off eBay... but I do check it almost daily...

They seem abit chuncky looking Laughing . The cougar is a pretty poor bike all round(sorry to say it) most parts new seem to be extortionate. And if the handel bar rubbers aint gone allready chances are they will soon. Again the rubbers are a rip off and last time i seen my lecturer fit a set they still didnt do any good Laughing . Shock a set of sr 125 or cg ones should be fine the guys probably just wanting you to spend money in his garage.

Thumbs Up ish

Thats one hell of a lot closer than I have got... but they are to fit a 750-1100cc bike arn't they? If that is the case they might be a bit too stiff -I have a heavy 125cc Gilera Coguar, so I'm looking for shocks for up to a 200-250cc bike. But we are getting closer Thumbs Up

Cheers

Why do I have a feeling that it might actually be cheaper as well as easier to just get the brand name Gilera shocks! And yes, Coguars are cr*p when it comes to anything other than looks, from a distance that is!

Yeah... it was Bob Wright who quoted me £60, I originally thought that it would be cheaper to get aftermarket ones, but I think I was mistaken!
