just took me gixxer for it's MOT, guy testing it was sound, got talkin to him n he rides a 200bhp Bandit 1200 :o
i failed on Number Plate (2 x 5 :bleh: )
and not havin a horn cus it's broke
Exhaust being too loud
but...... he let me off
Horn problem was solved by making a BEEP noise with my voice  :w00t:
Plate was solved by him saying it's too big lol
and he said he's going partially deaf (he isn't) so the exhaust seemed fine too him.
oh, and apparently you need a chain guard so he made me go home n fetch me hugger lol
he also made me do the rolling road brake test thing, little did he warn me that when i slam the front brake on that the bike will jump up and back, it did and swiftly hit me in the bollox
just wondering what anyone else has got away with?

A mate of mine went to his usual MOT station (25 miles away!) and failed because one of the indicators wasnt working (dunno why he failed to do a quick once over before he put his car in ). He said so basically all you have to do is visually see each indicator working? Tester was like yeh basically. Ok my mate said and proceeds to remove a working bulb from one of the indicators and replaces the broken bulb. Works now.. that good enough? my mate asked. He actually passed the MOT on that.. The guy new my mate was gonna go and buy a bulb right away and it would be silly to fail him on something so simple.. And anyhow MOT's are pretty pointless since the only time it has any value is the at the time it was in the station. What was a perfectly fine bike/car could be a deathtrap in a considerbly less time than an MOT certificate lasts. ____________________ 04' DT125RE (run-a-bout) // 89' DT125R (rebuilt + supermoto conversion)

I got away with having a race exhaust system on, apart from that it didn't have anything illegal on. ____________________ Honda MBX50 | Yamaha RD125LC | Suzuki RG125F Lucky Strike | Suzuki GSF600S

We have a 'friendly' MOT station down here. Favours include running open side pipes on a Corvette (Kaben can confirm this ), running the original american lights on said corvette and a Buick. We've gotten away with cracks in the sidewalls of tyres etc. just little things. ____________________ Bikes: too many, too much for one man to maintain anyway. |

I got away with a Yoshi RS3 full system just the other week.
He asked me if my pipe was loud before hand and had a listen before it went in for a test, just so I wouldn't be wasting my time and money. But he said he'd let it slide this time.
Aparently, it doesn't matter if the can has a BS mark on it anymore, it no has to just be as quiet as a stock system.
Think I'll get one of those removable baffles next year!

theres a place not far from where proximity lives where we both get our MOT's done. They've passed some ridiculous stuff, I had a scooter with a DIY plate made on yellow plastic with tape pass there. A faulty brakelight switch, leaking fork seals, illegal tyres, its a top quality place. ____________________ Bluespark Automotive - Diesel Tuning for Performance and Economy |

Thing is Toby at the end of the day I know what problems my bikes have and Ill fix them when i get chance. I wouldnt ride around wiht something dangerously bad. But its not like I dont have the occasional thing to fix the rest of the year, just I might be unlucky the week the MOT is due......Plus I always forget for a few weeks and end up having to take the bike in with no test on it. ____________________ Bluespark Automotive - Diesel Tuning for Performance and Economy |

I agree with Toby on them passing Mechanical failures as one day it could lead to a bad accident involving the rider and another innocent party.
horn, exhaust, plate etc. are fine IMO, anything else is risking the riders life ____________________ Turbo R1

I bring my Bandit to "The Man".
He says, "Are you keeping the bike?"
I say, "Yes".
He writes out MOT certificate.
I pay for MOT certificate, and a bit extra so that he can have a drink on me.
