Firstly, whats the difference between an o ring and x ring chain?
And the chain i had put on me old rs125 had like a split link thing, are they all like this?

What type chain does a zxr 400 use, o or x ring?

The ZXR can use either O ring or X ring. The rings are the little rubber bits in between each link,

Some chains are sealed and lubricated to prolong the internal 'fit' of the pins and bushes. This maintains the chains overall pin/bush sprocket pitch.
If you cut through the rubber lube seals. You will find some have a round 'O' section and some have an 'X' section. X seal sections effectivly provide a double seal lip. Which keeps lube in longer and shit out better.
Shit can't push past a seal in good condition and vice versa for oil.

and as for "Split link" chains,

That refers to the link that holds the chain together, you dont have a nice smooth link that goes through both ends of the chain, and then has the pins rounded off at the other end,

The back plate with the pins goes through the ends of the chain to hold it tight, then the plate goes on and there is a form of clip, that holds that link in place. Holding the chain together Thumbs Up
