Looking at a naked 6, I really like the aggressive type bikes and have always been a sports bike rider. I would like a bike that is quick, ok for trackdays and looks good (Im a tart!).

Right, the other thing is the bike needs to be newer than an 02 plate, and I have around £3k to spend on the bike.

Sports is not an option as the insurance is too high, and the Z750 has only yeilded ridiculous quotes due to a crash in August last year.

So someone point me in the right direction.

What do you have? Is it any good?

Hornet sounds ideal.

Jay12329 regularly does trackdays on his, and he isn't slow.

Should be reasonably priced too! Smile

This is my '02 hornet. I paid £2750 a year ago, so you should be able to do even better than that.

Apart from the soft front suspension, I have no complaints about the bike. Good, solid, reliable, fairly quick, corners well.

Ground clearance is the only problem with the HOrnet. I did a track day at Three Sisters on my 250.
Ground the pegs and rear brake/Gear selector thingy.

I could have kept going too. I was riding mini moto style as the peg just flipped up straight away!!

Bloody good fun though!! Thumbs Up

Old Fazer, before they ruined it with the R6 engine.

Remember one chap from Bike racing one in a 600s race, don't think it faired too badly (with rearsets, a shock and a system). On the road, I presume the gap would be even smaller (on anything but a 125mph+ straight).

Everyday useable, cheap as chips, doesn't look too bad.

Cheat and get the Z750. Keep ringing around those insurance companies. I can't believe the insurance is much different to a 600 - I use MCE.

Hey Sam, the Hornet is probably your best bet, but don't forget the bandit, can be had cheaply and are trackday-able. Now in derestricted state, kept up and overtook modern 600's easy enough, afterall it is down to the rider.

Only places I lost out to were 750's and 1000's on the low down torque factor.

Have you called as many places as possible? The quotes I got for my Z750 varied wildly (with 3 year NCB).

If you can't get the Z750 (which is def the best on looks and power, has to be black though) then I'd go for the Hornet, but go for a 2003 and later model as their look are a lot sharper.

Bloody good pic that Jon Thumbs Up

I'd go for a bandit because it's cheap and able. Slower than a hornet, but a lot cheaper. Again, not slow. Still well on an intermediate trackday pace.

Right, to be truthful I do not like the Suzuki Bandits and wouldnt exactly like one unless pushed.

I like the FZ6 (03 on) and the Z750 is a personal favourite. The Hornet seems like a good idea for me to look at, so really depends on insurance on these bikes.

I also need to buy the bike from a dealers so it is more down to what bikes they have at the time. Because the 1 bike my family have bought privately out of many many bikes has been a shitter really. I would much prefer the dealer warranty for the extra price.

The hornet has a reputation as a tankslapper, so for a first bike, a steering damper is probably a worthwhile investment

The FZ6 looks nice, very nice but i've heard it's a poor model compared to the earlier ones, particularly in the braking department.

Have owned a CBR400 NC29, a CBR600RR3 and currently pimp an RVF400 NC35 so it aint like its my first bike.

I have just had a quote of £531 with 0 NCB, 1 Claim pending, and a 3 point LC20 on an 03 Hornet worth £3k. That was the first quote off of Honda and for TPFT.

So it is likely that the Hornet will suffice to be the weapon of choice.
Old Fazer, before they ruined it with the R6 engine.
I beg to differ. I've owned a naked FZ6 since new from last August and I'm more than happy with her. I can't see why the new Fazer has had so much bad press. Get her to 9000rpm and she's a very quick, easy to ride bike. And reliable to boot. My only gripe is that the finish is not 100%. But in saying that, what do you expect from a sub £5000 budget bike?

You can pick up a year old naked Fazer for around the £3000 mark. Check out Parkers for all your new and used bike prices.

An old adage comes to mind. Don't knock it until you've tried it.
