Right, well I went for a little blast earlier, ended up coming home on motorway. Was keeping up with traffic (and getting blown to pieces by wind!) and my bike only got to 90mph Shocked.

I'm sure it's supposed to be alot quicker than that, might it be restricted?

a bandit 400?.

it's restricted.

the head wind on the motorway would have been slowing you down a little (must be hard riding an unfaired bike at those speeds on the motorway Sad.. ).

you should be able to go 120 and some on it though.

Take it to a garage who you know the owner/boss of and ask him not to take em out for 3o squid, alternatevly find out which form of restrictors they are and go from there if your doin it urself.

Cheers for that, one more thing.

Where would the restrictors be, and how can I find out which type they are?

Also, would the bike need any re-jetting or anything?

Would his dodgy fuelling suggest that the restriction is in the carb?

Any restriction gives you more mpg, unfortunately restrictors arent visible most of the time so its hard to tell, might be restrictor plates.

I'm talking about a Bandit 600 here, but I can't imagine the 400 would be too different...

You can restrict a Bandit two ways. One is with washers (an FI international kit) which sit between the carbs and the intake. Just pop the tank off, pop the carbs off and take out the 4 washers (they just sit in the pipes, should be no welding involved).

The way mine is done is by restricting the motion of the carbs so they can't open fully - this gives you better performance apparently but it's a pain in the arse to remove if you're mechanically inept like me. I don't know how to tell how your bike is restricted, I think you should take it to a garage and let them find out, unless you know what you're doing yourself.

Anyway, you've just passed your test and I'm sure you're not 21 yet, so what are you doing derestricting it eh? Naughty naughty... but it's OK, I won't tell anybody Smile

^ thats it, and yes unfortunately you will get less mpg Thumbs Down but on the other hand its worth it isnt it, only other restrictions i can think of are exhaust and throttle but i imagine its the washer things.

Have a look in next month's Bike magazine to see what a Bandit 400 can really do!

Look you've just passed your test, you've recently just had an off, please please wait before you try to to unrestricted.

90 is still 20 miles over the limit and enough to get you introuble for.

Nothing to do with his speed, he was having to chase other riders because only they knew the route Neutral

And in my defence, if I'd of had a faster bike I wouldn't of crashed Rolling Eyes.

And it's the MPG I'm worried about more, me money is going down the drain!

Have. Not of. Have. "And in my defence, if I'd have had a faster bike I wouldn't have crashed". Sorry but that's one of the things that really really annoys me Smile

And I don't know how you crashed (missed any thread, was on holiday) but I don't see how going faster means you would avoid an accident? It's probably statistically more likely to happen at higher speeds, you really have to have your wits about you when going fast.

Wow u lot have bad mileage, the reason you get more restricted is the revs/speeds you do - hence more mpg.
My divvy got about 70 town/80mpg motorway restricted and
60-70mpg now dependin if i rag it or not, which gets me to 150 before reserve so i guess bout 180 to a tank.
.

vee...
So you know his bike is restricted? Or is it a presumuption?

It may not be restricted.

It may be a jap import restriction gone wrong or, similar.

It may be fueling problems.

In some cases restricted bikes use more fuel, rather than less. Especially if you're trying to go the same speed on a restricted bike and thrashing it a lot more.

I agree with that, G.

The bike [b]is/b] a Jap import.
