I'm just being nosey, but what genre of music are you producing. I've got Cubase and Reason's ReCycle, used to do do a bit of trance but edging towards funky house now. ____________________ Ride with the music! |

And assignable twiddly bits as you say means more to someone who makes music.
Read the spec i guess.
TBH it depends what level your at, and what you want to get to.
Edit:- Anyway B stock stuff has been returned, for a reason..... ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

You might find just using a cheapo ebay keyboard leaves you hopping back and forward to the mouse and screen for every little thing.
Using something like Reason in a bedroom jam/mix setup probably doesn't need a full-sized k/b - I'd go for the option of more assignable controllers over extra keys in that situation.
Of the ones I recommended, the Alesis has the most assignable controllers and is Reason-compatible[1], the M-Audio has 8 touch-sensitive pads but less controllers and the Behringer has 49 keys.
I'd probably go for the Alesis. Like choosing the right bike, it's horses for courses I guess.
[1] "Here are just a few examples of what the templates let you grab in real time. In Propellerhead Reason, Dr-Rex’s template allows instant access to all filter parameters, all envelope segments for both filter and amplitude, LFO, oscillator pitch, loop transpose, mod wheel assignments, and velocity settings. In Applied Acoustics’ electric piano plug-in Lounge Lizard, you can control hammer stiffness, force, and noise, as well as parameters for appropriate effects like wah-wah, phaser, delay and tremolo." ____________________ "That's it.
