got my new (second hand) learners bike today.
I rode down on my zip 50 and said my goodbye's ect.....21 miles at 40mph, in the sun with a mellow tailwind. Then after all the paperwork was filled in, I jumped on my new(ish) Honda CA125 and...............had to get off again as the dealer showed me how to warm it up, pull off and get into second gear. After a bit of uming and aaaring i managed to get to some quiet back streets and have a bit of a play.
2 Hours later.........I felt alright, sun shining, bike ticking over nicely and pullin off, stopping, right, left and u turns almost down, i thought it was about time to try and go home. Pulls upto some lights waiting to go onto a dual carrage way back to blackpool. Green light, stall . Start up, quick checks around, pull away, went to change gear, wrong gear ( somehow?), bike does a mad bucking bronco thing (is this the infamous tank slapper?)
and were away.
Then the rain began, but not just a shower, a full on deluge with fast sidewinds ( lucky me!!!) but the bike when compared to the scooter in these conditions was very forgiving, and i got home in one piece.
So appart from stalling a few (fair few) times i f**king loved it.
Just waiting for the rush hour to pass and then I'm off out again!!!! |

the rain died off for a while at around half ten so i went out for a bit of a mooch. slowly getting the hand of this gears lark and i did'nt stall this time . Still having a wee bit of trouble with changing down and engine braking, but the initial concentration lapses due to the new gear system have started to lapse.
For some reason though, my left indicators dont flash, and the rear bulb blew before, followed by the dipped headlight setting ( the high beam still works allong with the position light. ) is this anything to do with the bike sitting for about 7 years without so much as a kind word said to it ( the bulbs are old and sh*te) or is the electrical system shot??
appart from that though.................thumbs up all round. |

im in the same boat as you with the gears, im slowly getting used to them
and they only way you'll work it out is to get new bulbs for your indies and rear, if they run fine then it was just a bulb problem, (my front left bulb didnt work so my rear left didnt )
if then your inidies dont work, then look at getting replacements?
if they havent been changed for 7 years, its a good chance that they've just blown. |

Dont worry about the gears, the third day I had my bike I had to go to work, the along the rabbit run, for those who know it. At 730 it gets busy.
Guess who was holding the traffic up that day? Yup, me in 5th doing 35
It took me about a week to get starting off nailed, but after that it becomes a compartition with yourself to see if you can get it faster, smoother, beat the nova, etc.
Its all good fun, and you can never beat the new bike feeling, im on my 4th... in a year! (I can safely blame a housefire though;)) ____________________ Past: GZ 125 K4 Marauder, VL 125 LC Intruder, FZS 600 Fazer. Present: GSF 600 N K3 Bandit, GSX-R 600 X(soon)

first hundred miles!!!!!!
I went to the dealer and he (free of charge) changed the headlamp bulb and the indicator bulb in the rear left, and then threw half a can of chain lube at me for the trouble!! All smiles there!
And yet another first, riding with gale force winds, very hairy

Try christmas day snow, year before, I was heading down my aunties to make an appearance as BikerSanta. My street has a slight gradiant, that gets worse as you head down the street.
Going I was ok. Coming back the snow had decided to freeze. Third gear and I hit a patch of black ice. Snow is harder than it looks. Its interesting seeing your bike sping away from you as you head in a complete and opposite direction. ____________________ Past: GZ 125 K4 Marauder, VL 125 LC Intruder, FZS 600 Fazer.
