Okay so a few threads ago i was whinging about new tyres, but ive noticed something this weekend........you can confidently corner a cbr125 on its crappy standard tyres Embarassed

I guess i just let the skinny cheap look scare me right out of it.......

Just wondered if anyone had any advice on how far they will go and how gradual they let slip......And also how to tell when to behave would be helpful. I dont want to find out that they just give up unexpectedly the hard way...

What size are the tyres - I've recommended BT45s a few times Very Happy

Width is mainly a fashion thing, my old CBR600 has a 130 width rear tyre and is still a fast bike (no sniggering at the back!).

As long as the tyres on in good condition i.e not square at the rear and fronts can go sawtoothed, then you would be able to get your knee down (if you wish!)

Very Happy

Edit : I presume you've read this thread Clicky

They'll give way eventually. Probably whenever you start trying tight corners at 60.

Yes i read that thread, doesnt describe what sort of feedback you get from the bike to tell its on it limits do not push it any harder <<this is what im worried about. I am tryin to ride faster not really about GYKD but i would like to know what indication you get that you cant push it any harder.

LOL as funny as it is thats what im trying to avoid. I could be going into corners thinking my suspension is shit etc, but its actually the tyre not gripping.....then next corner BANG! staright into a hedge/tree etc

So i would liek to know what signs to look for.....

Signs to look for, these are best seen when taking a roundabout faster and faster, but only going up speeds a little at a time, very progressively, good surface etc:

Rear end loosing traction:

Initially the bike should start twitching inwards. It won't feel like a slide, more like the bars are suddenly turned in a bit more.

Go past this and you will get proper rear wheel slides where you can feel the back of the bike step out and the front of the bike is now pointing further in.

I only found these out after ignoring them, crashing and realising my bike had been showing loads of signs it was on the edge of traction.

Front end loosing traction:

Much less likely to happen unless you hit some oil on the road, bad surface etc; but expect to suddenly lean more. If you're very lucky and manage to stay relaxed, it may grip again and carry on.

Doesn't the edge of traction feel different in different situations though? such as on corner entry, mid corner and corner exit? also whether your on the brakes, on neutral throttle trailing the brakes, just on neutral throttle, or on the power on the exit? Confused
