Pride of Scotland?

Heard on the news that a 7 year old boy and his father were attacked in Scotland yesterday for wearing an England top. In another incident, also in Scotland, a disabled bloke was dragged from his car and assaulted for flying a flag on his car and wearing an England top. Obviously these made the headlines because they're kinda extreme, so I wonder how many racist assaults actually took place.

I often find myself shocked at the english's naivity about how extreme some scottish people are to their hatred of the english. Unfortunately these attacks are quite common, but to be fair being english is one of a myriad of reasons as to why you can get your head kicked in. Scotlands a very violent place and in certain areas you'd be safer walking the streets of Northern Ireland with the wrong t-shirt as you would be to walk down some streets of scotland wearing an english top.

I'm not condoning the attacks, just pointing out the reality of the situation.

BTW I find it embarrassing that as a nation, Scotland is the most rascist in the UK. Incidents like these show us up to be a bunch of fuckwits and it completely detracts from the real issues scotland has with england.

I'm not naive to the hatred towards the english. I personally wouldn't fly the flag on my car if I was to visit Scotland, Wales or NI. I was more disgusted with the fact that a child and a person with disabilities was attacked.

FWIW in my experience some people and places in Scotland are very racist, nasty and hostile to anyone English. I know I've felt uncomfortable. However, some other places and people are as hospitable and friendly as you could wish.

So just like any other place/country then.

I guess it is a racist thing, or maybe an inferiority thing, who can tell. Is there a psychologist in the forum?

Living in Aberdeen all my life, ive never seen any racism towards anyone because they are English and apparently there is quite a high English poplulation in Aberdeen.

Yeah quite likely, i work in the oil industry and id say about 10% of the staff in my work are English. And they never get any hassle.

I understand that the Scots may have historical gripes against the English, (what nation doesn't?) but it's unacceptable to me that this anti-English prejudice is ignored by the authorities.

We have the West Lothian question, the £1400 per head bonus from the Exchequer to the Scottish Parliment, and we have hundreds of thousands of Scots kicking around the place, moaning about how terrible we are while making their living here.

Jews often complain that anti-semitism is the last acceptable prejudice - I put to you that anti-Englandism is still hanging in there too!

what gets me is.. a womans husband who i work with is scottish and he lives in england obviously.

he supports man city every week (not rangers even though he wears thier shirt all the time )

when the world cup is on though he cheers on the other team that are playing against england.

i mean if scotland is so great and he hates england that much to live here for 30 years why doesnt he fuck off back home?.
