Okay, so viewing a bike on monday with the intention to buy, my cheque cleared friday, and im wanting to draw £1700 out of my Savings account at Nationwide.
ive heard they need 3 days notice, is it possible to get the money by the afternoon if this is the case?
Does a bankers draft work, does it take time to clear like a cheque.
im abit worried.

Mondays are a good time to draw money out of a bank without notice, as a lot of shops will do their paying in on a Saturday. I've been lucky in the past doing this, but I don't think it will be as true for building societies.
A banker's draft is a cheque issued by the bank itself, so you wouldn't need to wait for it to clear. ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

Yes, but Steve wouldn't have to wait for it to clear. Not unless whoever sold him the bike didn't trust the bank to have enough funds ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

Since the change in the law regarding money laundering, it's harder to withdraw large amounts of cash with no notice. Give the bank a day or two's notice and you should be fine.
I bought the firestorm with cash, and just went to the cash machine the 3 preceding days and maxed out the withdrawl limit. Couldn't be bothered sorting out large withdrawls.

Abbey said anything over £500 they need ID for when withdrawing from a saver's account. They never mentioned a withdrawal limit, but as has been mentioned already, it may be different for a building society.
If you can't get the cash, then why not take the fella down to the bank and get it transferred.

Go into the branch and say you need it sharpish, if they are funny about it say you want to close the account and are going to take your business elsewhere, that has worked for me in the past. ____________________ If you dont like the way that I ride.......Stop trying to keep up!!! |

The notice period doesn't usually mean the bank may not have that amount of cash available, it geneally means that unless you give them the required notice you will lose interest on your savings, anything from a months worth to a years worth depending on the terms of your account.
Ring the bank first thing in the morning to check.
As has already been said, you can also ask the bank to do a CHAPS payment (same day electronic transfer) into the sellers account. There is usually a charge for this though and it might be as much as £20. ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Unfortunately, anyone who offers me a bankers' draft is likely to be someone who I don't know, therefore can't trust - and I don't know what kind of dodgy acquaintances they have.
If I knew the person anyway, they may as well give me a regular cheque. ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |

indeed, just been down and its that stupid £100 a day! its my f"cking money, i think i can decide how much i can take out, wankers...
i think ill have to phone the guy and see if he will accept a bankers draft, wich means batering the price over the phone, taking a risk i know.
