Halfords Professional seem to be pretty well liked. I've got a set that have done me proud for 4 or 5 years.

Just buy the ratchets then. The same ones found in the sets can be bought individually.

Make sure you get the Pro range ones though. I think they do a cheaper range that's not as good and doesn't have the lifetime guarantee.

Slightly off topic but i don't intend to steal the topic...

Are there are tools that i should keep with my bike at all times? IE for tensioning my chain, changing spark plug etc?

Sorry, its just that i am new to the whole biking world so i don't want to be caught out on those dodgey days (you have the tools, nothing happens....you don't have tools, everything happens Rolling Eyes )

Fortunatley i haven't been caught out yet but no doubt it will happen.

Thanks
Matt

Hi

For emergency use (like tightening the chain unexpectedly) the tool kits supplied with the bikes are OK so I would not worry too much about carrying extras. Maybe carry a small bit of wet & dry paper, maybe a spare bulb kit, maybe a small can of WD40.

Halfords certainly should sell copper grease (might be by the brake pads).

All the best

Keith

Unfortunatly, the CBR 125's tool kit isnt the best! Its budget like the rest of the bike Laughing And ill have a look round the brake pads mate for the Copper Greasy.

My shopping list for tommorow is

1. Ratchet or Socket set
2. Copper Grease
3. Castrol oil

Also on another note, can you get ajustable paddock stands, as in the things that hold your swing arm, you can ajust the width on which they go to? Just so i can use it for my CBR 125 and my next bike?

Hi

Wouldn't recommend using the bikes tool kit for everything, but it should do for when you are out and about.

A lot of people seem impressed with the Halfords pro stuff, and they are easy to get to.

Think most paddock stands adjust for width.

All the best

Keith

Halfords pro every time.

The amount of stomping I've done on my 24 mil one, and the stress the rest of them have taken is unbelievable.

My 8 mil didn't even snap trying to break free a siezed engine bolt.

They just won't die.

Just measure the square hole on the back of your sockets. They are likely to be either 1/2" or 3/8". Then match this to the right ratchet handle. You can use an adapter to convert it if you have a mixture, but your better off getting the right one for each of the 2 or 3 (1/4" popular too for smaller sizes) sizes due to the stresses put on them. A 1/2" ratchet with a converter down to 3/8" should see you fine though, if a little bulky for anything much under 15mm.

The Cresent Suzuki workshop use the Halfords Pro tools, and if its good enough for them....

When cheap tools go missing/break/wear out then it's time to replace that tool with a decent one. Over time your most used tools will get replaced and you will end up with a decent collection

IMO the only tools to get when doing this are:

Snap-On are bloody expensive, not really worth the cost to home mechanics. Facom are also very good quality (as good as Snap on) but without the huge prices.

Hi

Think Facom are the same company as Britool and Sykes Pikavant (sp).

All the best
