What I mean is, the LPG motorcycle is legally possible or not in Europe...??

For example, EC directive or UK national law allows to rider LPG motor cycle??

And I couldn't find reference fuel(LPG) for emission testing of LPG motorcycle on the EC directive.

If you have seen any legal LPG motorcycle in UK or in other European countries please give me an advice.

Thank you for all of your helps.

i have heard of an lpg scooter but dont remember much about it

the heavy tank for holding lpg compressed probably makes petrol bikes a better idea.

IMO unless there's a jump in technology with the storage tanks people may convert cars to LPG and/or get a bike/scooter for commuting.

The LPG bottle wasn't actually very big.

There are crash proof LPG tanks made from carbon fibre, and from the videos i've seen they would certainly survive a bike crash. It's a good idea, but i doubt there's demand.

I heard that LPG motorcycle is forbidden from EU yesterday. it is suprising....

Who made the goldwing? by Honda?? or by a one who loves mechanics?

I sorry that I can't show any reference for that fact about EU and LPG motorcycle.

Frankly... I don't understand the reason why the LPG motorcycle is impossible in Europe.

As one said... there's crashproof LPG bottle.....

I've no idea if LPG is banned from use on motorcycles.

I've spoken to a couple of conversion guys who seemed to think it was very simple to install and one showed me a catalogue of LPG tanks and said just pick whichever one you like.

Thailand has LPG Tuk Tuks, which are small 3 wheelers, usually converted mopeds or 125s.

I started converting a bike to LPG, but I had an offer on it and sold it.

Motorhomers have LPG converted generators and I've seen a few LPG converted lawnmowers.

There isn't anything very tricky about it.

I'll have another go at converting one sometime soon.

Dear Hotdog...

LPG motorcycle is banned by EEC directive. Maybe you can modify your motorcycle which is 4 stroke. But for the motorcycle manufacturer who make 1000s of motor cycle it is impossible.

I know there's lots of common part between LPG and Petrol. But on the directive there's no ideas of LPG tank and reference fuel for emission test.

for 4 wheel cars, there's a specific directive about LPG ref. fuel and LPG fuel tank.

https://www.100scooter.com/125ccNewDesignDirtBikeFD1cycl.htm

above web site was posted by you. On the web, there's word "EEC". it means those motor cycle can be sold in European union. But for the LPG motory cycle you may not find that word "EEC".

But I do hope LPG motorcycle is sold in EU in soon.

i know that you can get LPG quads brand new as i had a hand in selling some, so i dont believe that LPG motorcycles are illegal.

i think that supplier just doesnt supply lpg bikes to the eu because there isnt much demand.

But remember that quads are classed as cars rather than motorcycles hence the road legal ones don't require a helmet to be worn. Cool

I do remember at the NEC motorcycle show last year there was a company showing there with LPG mopeds. So if they're allowed I don't see why motorcycles are banned (unless it's a cc size issue). However, I can't remember the name of the moped company. I think it started with a V if that helps.

Found it Dance! Vialli - link is www.lpgscooters.biz

I did also find these images...

Well there are LPG motorcycles about, if your really serious about one then i'll direct you to information about them.. there perfectly legal as far as i'm aware (they might ned to go through some kind of safety test?)

There are some very significant downpoints to them..

Arrow The lpg canister will take up allot of space, imo its only really worth doing if your never takeing a passenger or have a sidecar outfit..
Arrow Potentially dangerous if not fitted properly
Arrow Not everywhere has lpg fill-up points, unless its for regular commuting it could be a world of hassle going to find a place with it Thumbs Down
Much like deisel, as soon as people click onto something being cheap then they up the tax on it, also gas is always creeping up in price Thumbs Down

yes, they take up space, the most common design is a toroidal tank that fits into the spare tyre well and the tyre is relocated, tank design is improving and more tanks are being offered continually - there is a moped sized LPG bike ffs

Arrow Potentially dangerous if not fitted properly

and petrol isn't ?

LPG systems are fitted to existing vehicles as dual fuel, usually you start up on petrol and then flick a switch to change to LPG, if you run low switch back to petrol

Diesel was initially taxed less (in this country) as it was only used by transport vehicles.

The tax is now the same as on petrol because it pollutes as much (yes, I'm aware of the difference but both are dino-fuels).

LPG is cheaper because it is environmentally more friendly.

People 'jumping on the bandwagon' won't change the emissions category of LPG.

Err it has been mooted on several occasions that Mr Brown will be announcing a large increase on LPG taxation within the next year or two that has nothing to do with environmental issues. More that it is becoming more and more accepted/fashionable so there is a large sector to tax now whereas before, as a minority sector, it wasnt worth it. Cool

I have no idea about bikes with them designed in, i mean retrofiting, mopeds generally can fit a full face helmet witout much trouble, which is more than can be said for allot of bikes.. under the mudguard somehow maybe? but most your looking at haveing it on a rack..

Hotdog wrote:

Indeed its not, i'd be happyer with a gas cylinder thats pressure tested and thick enough to smash through a brick wall in certain circumstances than petrol tanks 2mm thick and prone to sprouting holes over the years...
Not to mention leaks.. petrol stays on the road, gas is on its way right away...

Its the gas aspect of it, needs propper fittings, and thinking out just like adding a petrol tank, only under pressure..

Hotdog wrote:

All the ones ive seen (bikes) need runing with petrol and lpg mixed at a certain level, switching over to petrol only is possible, if you take petrol carbs with you Wink

Suppose the ideal thing would be to be able to buy standard canisters..

Hotdog wrote:

It wont, but its set to get more expensive, to the point where it wont be economicaly advantagous (it being cheap is lets face it, most people concern)

I can see the benefits, but the cost and hassle imo isn't worth it (in this country at least) lpg has been arorund for years i'd have thought it would have caught on by now..
