IMO unless there's a jump in technology with the storage tanks people may convert cars to LPG and/or get a bike/scooter for commuting. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

There are crash proof LPG tanks made from carbon fibre, and from the videos i've seen they would certainly survive a bike crash. It's a good idea, but i doubt there's demand.

Dear Hotdog...
LPG motorcycle is banned by EEC directive. Maybe you can modify your motorcycle which is 4 stroke. But for the motorcycle manufacturer who make 1000s of motor cycle it is impossible.
I know there's lots of common part between LPG and Petrol. But on the directive there's no ideas of LPG tank and reference fuel for emission test.
for 4 wheel cars, there's a specific directive about LPG ref. fuel and LPG fuel tank.
https://www.100scooter.com/125ccNewDesignDirtBikeFD1cycl.htm
above web site was posted by you. On the web, there's word "EEC". it means those motor cycle can be sold in European union. But for the LPG motory cycle you may not find that word "EEC".
But I do hope LPG motorcycle is sold in EU in soon. ____________________ thank you for reading and your kind reply |

Well there are LPG motorcycles about, if your really serious about one then i'll direct you to information about them.. there perfectly legal as far as i'm aware (they might ned to go through some kind of safety test?)
There are some very significant downpoints to them..
The lpg canister will take up allot of space, imo its only really worth doing if your never takeing a passenger or have a sidecar outfit..
Potentially dangerous if not fitted properly
Not everywhere has lpg fill-up points, unless its for regular commuting it could be a world of hassle going to find a place with it
Much like deisel, as soon as people click onto something being cheap then they up the tax on it, also gas is always creeping up in price ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

yes, they take up space, the most common design is a toroidal tank that fits into the spare tyre well and the tyre is relocated, tank design is improving and more tanks are being offered continually - there is a moped sized LPG bike ffs

and petrol isn't ?

LPG systems are fitted to existing vehicles as dual fuel, usually you start up on petrol and then flick a switch to change to LPG, if you run low switch back to petrol

Diesel was initially taxed less (in this country) as it was only used by transport vehicles.
The tax is now the same as on petrol because it pollutes as much (yes, I'm aware of the difference but both are dino-fuels).
LPG is cheaper because it is environmentally more friendly.
People 'jumping on the bandwagon' won't change the emissions category of LPG. ____________________ He's a gentleman, a scholar, he's an-acrobat, he's the one and only truly original.......

I have no idea about bikes with them designed in, i mean retrofiting, mopeds generally can fit a full face helmet witout much trouble, which is more than can be said for allot of bikes.. under the mudguard somehow maybe? but most your looking at haveing it on a rack..

Indeed its not, i'd be happyer with a gas cylinder thats pressure tested and thick enough to smash through a brick wall in certain circumstances than petrol tanks 2mm thick and prone to sprouting holes over the years...
Not to mention leaks.. petrol stays on the road, gas is on its way right away...
Its the gas aspect of it, needs propper fittings, and thinking out just like adding a petrol tank, only under pressure..

All the ones ive seen (bikes) need runing with petrol and lpg mixed at a certain level, switching over to petrol only is possible, if you take petrol carbs with you
Suppose the ideal thing would be to be able to buy standard canisters..

It wont, but its set to get more expensive, to the point where it wont be economicaly advantagous (it being cheap is lets face it, most people concern)
I can see the benefits, but the cost and hassle imo isn't worth it (in this country at least) lpg has been arorund for years i'd have thought it would have caught on by now.. ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |
