As in this thread im off to athens for at least a month, hopefully two to molest turtles.

The family is now calling me 'Terrapin Dundee'

Just thought id let you know just incase anyone thinks ive crashed and died or such when im not adding my usual drivel to threads.

So, have a great summer guys. Try not to crash/flip or general break your bikes (im looking at you wave and quacker! ) and i hope the weather/petrol supply holds up.

Got here Sat, this is the first time ive got to the internet Cafe. Doubt i'll come here much to be honest.

Its been quite cold here (for greece) at 34 degrees roughly, and its only going to get hotter, which is both good and bad. But then it only starts getting hot past about 3, and we finish all our work by about 1 to 2 ish.

Work so far (and as far as i can see the whole time i will be here, all though i might go to a beach project after a month or so) involves getting up at 9, doing some admin shite for 20 mins (opening shop, getting fish or doing observations for all 18 turtles) then getting stuck in with the turtles.

Mainly we clean the turtles/tanks, and their various wounds with antiseptic and such. Lots of injections, drips etc. Lots of moving round bastard heavy turtles. My favourite Iraklis is only about 15kilos (and cos shes lovely i bought her some squid, as all Archelon provide is fish), but some of the bigger turtles are well over 60kilos, and are about 120 cm long. Lugging them about is fun.

Also the fun of tubefeeding comes about everynow and then, mostly the girls here do that, but theres one massive turtle who doesnt eat (although she ate 4 sea urchins that me and Lauren went out and caught from the sea -about 10 feet from the edges of the site- so we shall get out and do it more) so I have to do that one. Wedging a tube down there throat and squirting blended up fish down it on a 60kilo turtle who REALLY doesnt want to be up on a wooden ramp in here tank is fun

EVERYONE smokes here, and fags are only 1.50 Euro (about a quid) for 20, and im writing this from an internet cafe fag in hand -the cafe also sells booze -. Great stuff. Booze is a rip off here (from bars that is), but if you buy it in shops its cheap as shit (4 big heinekens for 4.50 euro - about 3 quid)

As i said we usually finish between 1 or 2, sometimes 12, sometimes 2.30 ish. But it only gets really hot from 3 onwards so ive been fine.

Ive sunburnt the hell out of back, busted my ankle, got bitten to hell by mossies, and the turtles keep kicking off when ever you are treating them (and there jaws are bigger then my head, and they are BLOODY powerful) but so far ive only been scratched and not bitten.

But im LOVING it here. Its fantastic.

True ive been so pressed for masculing company i was forced to play football with a big group of mormons who tackle like small girls, but it was a good laugh. Im REALLY tanned on my face and back (its only been a week) and whenever we finish we can go to the beach/pub/restuarant etc (as long as one of us stays and minds the site).

Well worth it, 10000000x better then any job i could be doing in stevenage.
