I've been seeing a lot of posts on the forums recently from people who haven't passed CBT on their first try, including a full biker suggesting that the odds of passing first time are very low if the person has no previous motorbike experience. Since I have CBT on Monday I thought I may as well do a poll. For anyone who has multiple CBT certificates, the question refers to the very first one.

Regardless of the results I'm going to go in and try my hardest, but since I'm standing at no car experience and minimal motorbike experience (the Royal Signals team visited my school once and we got to have a go on their 60cc bikes for 10 minutes - basically they showed us the front brake and the throttle, then put it into 2nd gear for us and let go) I can't help worrying that I might fail!

1st time on a cg125.

i had ridden crossers before back when i were a lad so i had geared bike experience.

it was a bit of a shock though to have to ride into buxton town centre and face the cagers Shocked .

after only hooning it around the old raf camp site in cheadle hulme/handforth in 79

it's not hard though.

you get to ride round a go kart track or at least i did in buxton for a few hours.

just remain calm and take your time and you will be laughing.

it is good fun.

Passed first time with no previous bike experience on a Yamaha YQ100 (automatic)

Despite having never been on a geared bike, when my YQ100 got stolen, bought the CBR125R and road it home. Not a problem. Learned to ride it based purely on theory and watching other bikers around and about the bike dealers. Thumbs Up

I'd never even sat on a bike until the morning of my CBT Shocked but still managed to pass CBT on a CG125 (and DAS on a Suzuki GS500) both first time Thumbs Up

The only ones I heard of that failed had been acting like idiots, wheelying or intentionally ignoring instructions etc

IMO it shouldn't be anything to worry about, just listen, learn, and enjoy the new experiences

past 1st time, no bike experience. but was a avid mountain biker, so being on two wheels is second nature, just needed to learn the balance the weight and use hands, feet in a different manner.

Confused you don't "pass" a cbt as such. you just complete a training course. it's not a test.
it should only take one full day, or two if it's been dragged out or something goes wrong.

Like Hoodwink says it no a test but more to see you are competent enough to ride safely on the roads. But saying all that when i took my cbt there was a woman on a moped that never had a clue. And as long as she had a hole in here ass,she want getting a certificate.
Also while taking test another young lad crashed into a brand new toyota, think he had ridden ok until then, not sure if he got a certificate.

I know it's not a test as such, but for some reason I thought phrasing it properly would have been too long-winded. Thinking about it now, I could have just put 'completed'.

To be honest my main concern is just the bother of booking a second day if I need it, because I don't know when my next day off is! Luckily the place I'm going to be training at has one of those 'second day is free' offers so at least I won't be charged again like some of the stories I've been reading about on here, if it comes to that.

Did it for a laugh a couple of years ago, had never ridden before except for a ped in Greece like 16 years ago (which I crashed wearing shorts and no lid).

I was shocked when she said right were going on the roads now, i'm like what the f......

Nearly failed it though, couldn't get the concept of cancelling indicators, got a final warning through my ear piece. Basicaly I was told if I do it again , i'll have to come back.

Which I honestly think if I did fail it, i'd have never bothered.

When I was doing mine their was a girl there who was really into her bikes but as soon as she sat on one she would start shaking Confused

Instructor spent ages with her on an industrial estate but couldn't give her a certificate because he wasn't confident in taking her on the road as when she was riding she was in like a state of shock!!!!

Hope she managed to complete it eventually as she really loved bikes

Thumbs Up

For anyone who's interested: I didn't manage to complete it today. It just took me too long to get used to co-ordinating some of the basic elements (starting off, for example) and in the end I got really stressed and frustrated, so I'd make more mistakes, so I got even more stressed... etc. Luckily (for me, anyway) the other guy who was supposed to be doing CBT didn't actually turn up so I got one-and-one instruction and didn't have the added mental pressure of 'oh, that other person did it fine, what's wrong with me?'.

As I mentioned earlier, the second day is free and the main problem is just finding a day to do it on. My incredibly supportive mother has already told me that I'm 'too young to be a on a bike, really' and that I should get a car instead.

I'll need a little break for my self-confidence to recover, but I'm determined to get back on a bike and try again when I can.
