Posted: 13:35 - 05 Jul 2006 Post subject: Is AGV not meant to be 'Quality'? |
 |
|
Earlier on this morning I was down at my local honda dealer looking at some lids and gear.
They have a large selection of AGV lids on sale and a lot of Rossi replica's. I dont know what it was but for some reason When i tried on various AGV's i couldn't help but think they just didnt seem to be as good quality as to what the magazines hype them up to me.
It felt really light and parts of it seemed flimsy, it was comfortable to wear but apart from that it certainly didnt leave me feeling like it was anything more special than my takachi lid.
I also tried on a couple of Shoei's and Carberg's they seemed not too bad and quite resasonably priced to be honest. So they seemed really good, Also the Arai helmets in the cabinet seemed to look really well made.
But im left wondering if AGV are all about flashy colourful Rossi reps' that appeal to a lot of people rather than well made lids for safety.
Maybe its just me, but certainly this was my impression..
Anyone else have a different opinion/same opinion. experiences.
Wouldnt mind hearing what you guys think of AGV lids.
Rich. |

They are light weight but strong lids like Suomy.
You will find with alot of race style helmets they are very light but strong and also very noisey on the road at any thing over 50 ____________________ ◙◙► K6 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 1000 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► 96 RF600r ◄◙◙

I have an AGV demon v top and whilst it isn't up to the quality of an arai, especially the lining, its not bad at all.
The pikey thing about it and many cheap helmets is that for a small, medium and large they will create one large mould and then simply pad-out the helmet. This is the case with my AGV, whereas Arais are shell sized. Makes my AGV looks a bit like a goldfish bowl on my head unless I am wearing bulky clothes
The graphics are usually pretty decent too (except that Rossi rep ) |

I had an AGV X-vent a few years ago, and although it was light it was very very strong as I found out when I hit a tree at 70mph. The chin guard did break but it still gave me only a few facial injuries, which considering the impact and the rest of my injuries was very little.
That said however my helmet at present is an X-Lite X-902 which is superb and has a pinlock system which I would higly recommend. ____________________ Staffs Riders Forum |

Got my AGV Stealth in the HG sale. Always had AGV's with absolutely no problems. OK on the motorways at high speeds it can be a little noisy but I always wear plugs on motorway journeys anyway. At high speeds the stability due to the vents and the aerodynamic styling keeps the head very stable, no buffeting at all.
I have tried other helmets and the AGV suits me, fits perfectly and is very light.
If it's good enough for Rossi it's good enough for me. ____________________ GSXR600K4 Blue - fastest colour. No mods as yet. Happy with standard bike.

as if rossi wears the same helmet as you can buy in the shops, what he really is wearing is some custom made helmet or an Arai painted to look like an AGV, which it isn't, thats almost like saying my blade is the same as the WSB bike , there are similarities but fundamentally they are different.
Its like blokes who sell bullet proof vests , and won't give a demo by taking one off the shelf wearing it and letting you unload a 44 magnum into the vest.
while I do remember a bloke claiming his airbag system was great , the interviewer said yeah? , he said yeah , so he got into a car fitted with such a system and crashed directly into the side of a lorry,
Or that guy who advertised safe collasping lamposts , he got into a car and crashed into it ,that was on 5th gear.

Nice, ive never looked at Suomy helmets. I thinking of getting another helmet soon (even though havnt got a bike but always need a helmet) and going to get Shoei xr1000 as my Raid II held up so well.
What i wanted to know, do they have the "anti mist" thing in them like Shoei's do?? What misting like if its arrived yet?? ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |
